Larned City Council approves Sunday liquor sales

LARNED - The question of whether or not Larned will allow Sunday liquor sales was raised, and the answer from city council members came back yes, with only one member, Carroll Bennett, dissenting. No reason was provided. The owner of Guy's liquor store contacted Mayor William Nusser to request a change to the city code, allowing the sale of alcoholic liquor and cereal malt beverages on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

Vet Day event planned at Barton County memorial

Although there have been no new addition this year, the Memorial Parks Advisory Committee will carry on the tradition of hosting a Veterans Day event at the Golden Belt Veterans Memorial north of Great Bend, said committee Chairman Mick Lang.

USD 431 hear report on state representatives visit

Election day has come and gone for 2017, and the ballots are in, even though they won't become official until Monday when the votes are canvassed by the Barton County Commissioners.

Sales tax passes

A ballot question that extends Great Bend's quarter-cent sales tax for 10 more years was approved Tuesday. The sales tax is used for street improvements. There were 2,130 people who voted in favor of keeping the tax. That was nearly 75 percent of the total voted. There were 724 no votes, which was slightly more than 25 percent.

Bridge replacement finally on track

It's been a long road, but a contract to replace a bridge one mile east of Great Bend on East Barton County Road was approved by the Barton County Commission Monday morning.
