Middle School dance at Activity Center

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will sponsor a Fall Middle School Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Great Bend Activity Center, at 2715 18th St., for all Great Bend Middle School students. Admission is $5 with GBMS students ID. No hats will be allowed. Pizza will be available for $1 per slice. Popcorn and water will be provided.

MACK Fun Fly is Saturday

The Model Association of Central Kansas invites the public to its Fun Fly, from 1 p.m. until dusk this Saturday, Oct. 11, at the MACK flying field. The field is located south of the intersection of Patton Road and Railroad Ave. at 114 SW 20 Ave.

K of C to hold Pave the Parking Lot fundraiser

Members of the Knights of Columbus Club in Great Bend are asking the public to help them raise funds to pave the parking lot at their club, 723 Main Street, which is used for numerous public events. There will be a fried chicken dinner at the club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 12. Cost is $10 for a dinner with all the trimmings. There will be free hot dogs for kids 5 and under, and to-go boxes are available.

BCC Library announces pamphlet art contest

The Barton Community College Library will hold an art contest to determine the artwork for seven Cohen Center for Kansas History (CCKH) trivia pamphlets. Submissions can be done in any medium and must be postmarked by Nov. 10. Contest is open to all students, Barton employees and community members. Multiple entries are accepted.

Crime Stoppers seeks tips

Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend accepts anonymous tips that may help solve crimes or recover stolen property. On Saturday, Oct. 4, just after midnight, Great Bend Police officers responded to an alarm at L&M Contractors on K-96. A garage door was found open, and it was determined a Stihl chain saw, chop saw, chipping hammer, transit, angle grinder and a 14-inch saw were stolen. Loss was $6,700.

GBHS Debate Squad places first

At the Lyons Invitational Debate Tournament, the GBHS debate team placed first overall. In the novice division the three man team of Uriel Renteria, Becca Kay and, Sara Allen placed 5th with a 4/1 win/loss record. Also in the Novice division the team of Kylynn Keeler and Hadley Murphy placed 6th with a 4/1 win/loss record. The open division the team of Kris Gieck and Carter Sheffield went undefeated with a 5/0 win/loss record placed 5th and the team of Aaron Miller and Ashtin Heath placed 7th with a 4/1 win/loss record ...
