County offices to close, commission to meet Tuesday due to Labor Day

Monarch Mania to be held at Quivira

Quivira National Wildlife Refuge is presenting Monarch Mania, a special event to be held on Saturday, Sept. 17. US-281 Highway in Hoisington closing for annual Labor Day celebration

Zebra Mussels found in Cedar Bluff Reservoir

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) has confirmed the presence of invasive zebra mussels in Cedar Bluff Reservoir in Trego County. The lake is owned and operated by the federal Bureau of Reclamation (BOR). In July, the BOR conducted its annual plankton sampling survey which revealed zebra mussel veligers (larvae). The results were reported to KDWPT aquatic nuisance species staff on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Airplane forced to make emergency landing

At 12;35 p.m. on Thursday one mile south of Bushton, a 1968 piper fixed wing aircraft flown by Brad Fitchett, 51 of Ellsworth, was in the process of spraying pesticide on a crop field and had to make an emergency landing when the engine stalled.
