Broadway-Harrison collision

Traffic stops after a Pontiac Bonneville SE and Ford F-150 truck collide at Broadway and Harrison, around 11:35 a.m. Tuesday. There was also a collision at the intersection Friday afternoon. The intersection was once a regular spot for traffic accidents, before the city removed part of the center island and added a left-turn lane on the east side of Broadway in 2011. Now collisions are not a regular event at Broadway and Harrison.

Big Benefit Auction raises $55,000

About 300 auction-goers decked out in "Denim and Diamonds" came together to raise money for Barton Community College scholarships and program enhancements at the Barton Foundation's 35th annual Big Benefit Auction on Aug. 24.

Rosewood Riders conquer challenges at World Horse Show

TULSA, Okla. - Rosewood Ranch's third year competing in the National Snaffle Bit Association World Championship Show proved to be its toughest challenge of three appearances. Still, the riders persevered, taking home 14 top-10 finishes with two Rosewood riders recording top-3 finishes, which included Rosewood's Jamie Crone winning reserve grand champion.

Senior Volunteers honored for service to elderly

Beverly Davis, Earl Lumpkins and Bernita Degenhardt of Great Bend were honored for their service to the elderly at the February Senior Companion Program in-service meeting held at the Great Bend Senior Center on Aug. 21st. Davis has served 10 years; Lumpkins, nine years and Degenhardt, five years with the Program. Senior Companions offer friendship and assistance with daily living activities to older persons needing help to live independently.

​Seventh-day Adventist School taking frozen berry orders

The Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School is placing the spring order for frozen fruit from the Bithell Farms in Oregon. Place orders by Feb. 25 and the fruit will arrive in late March or early April. Available are Marion blackberries, red raspberries, boysenberries, blueberries, strawberries which are sliced and sugared, strawberries whole without sugar, loganberries, red pie cherries, dark sweet cherries, peaches, apricots, apples and red rhubarb. Also available are freezer jam and purees.
