First Baptist Church offers Thanksgiving lunch for anyone in need

Great Bend's First Baptist Church, 1600 19th St., will provide free Thanksgiving meals to anyone who needs them. Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. "or until we run out of food" on Thursday, Nov. 24, said LiAnna Keith at First Baptist.

The Great Bend Police Department is currently investigating a missing person case involving Charles Everett McHenry III. McHenry has been missing since May 6, 2016 and was last seen in an area between Great Bend and Hoisington.

Collapsing house to be razed

There will be on fewer eyesore dotting Great Bend streets after the City Council deemed a dilapidated house at 2545 Seventh St. as "unsafe and dangerous" and authorized it to be razed.

Construction update

The work to replace the native stone bridge three miles north of Beaver will begin on Monday, November 14th. The contractor will set up the signs and barricades and Barton County forces will begin demolition of the bridge. NE 60 Avenue will be closed between NE 210 Road and NE 220 Road for approximately two months. Reece Construction Company will construct the new reinforced concrete box culvert and Barton County crews will finish the grading work and place the asphalt for the roadway.

Covered Events Center walkway to be removed.

The Great Bend City Council wants to do what it can to separate the city-owned Events Center and the neighboring Parkside Hotel and Convention Center. To this end, the council Monday night authorized the removal of a covered walkway connecting the two buildings.

Ellinwood council to sell building by sealed bid

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood City Council put off for a second time the sale of the city-owned Main Street building to Wolf Hotel owner Chris McCord. He and Chris Batchman had made competing written offers which were announced at the October city council meeting.

Knights of Columbus chili/chicken noodle soup supper

The Great Bend Knights of Columbus will hold its annual chili and chicken noodle soup supper on Thursday, Nov. 10. The come-and-go meal will be served from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Columbus Club, 723 Main. Take-out meals will be available. Tickets are available at the door.

The location of Saturday's Charity Chili Cook-off for Sunflower Diversified Services Diversified has moved to the bandshell area of the Barton County Courthouse Square. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 12.
