RUSSELL - Two vehicles collided and two people were taken to Russell Regional Hospital on Sunday after a driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of Old 40 and 189th St., approximately 1.25 miles east of Russell.

ELLSWORTH - On Saturday June 27, the 16th annual "Run For The Soul" Motorcycle Benefit Run will be held at the Ellsworth Recreation Center, former Armory, in Ellsworth. The ride will leave at 12:30 p.m. with a bike parade around the Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

There's something about flags. And a huge display like the one that sets off the impressive Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps exhibit at the Great Bend Public Library can't help but draw in visitors looking for a place to cool off during the June Jaunt celebration in Great Bend this weekend. The display is made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Kansas Humanities Council and the Smithsonian Institution's Hometown Teams project.
ELLINWOOD - Wolf Park in Ellinwood was graced Friday with an eye catching piece of art thanks to the creativity and artistic know-how of three of the communities local artists. Rosa Lyn Borchers, Ellinwood, met Friday with Chamber of Commerce Director Jacque Isern and Renee Miller of Sentinel Gallery at Wolf Park. She was presented a $50 Chamber gift certificate for her winning design for Ellinwood's June Jaunt Barn Quilt. Miller and partner Aaron McCaffery transformed the design into it's finished form including a three-dimensional sheaf of wheat created from wood and wire.
HOISINGTON - As usual, Senator Jerry Moran was worth the price of admission (free) at the Hoisington Activity Center. He even jokingly talked about his father's underwear for the first time. More on Moran's father later.
The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes proposed employee handbook changes, a Sheriff's Office training facility update and the county's road sand-sealing operation.
Great Bend youths spent most of the day Friday learning what makes the City of Great Bend tick. For the 41st Youth Academy, they visited areas seldom seen, such as the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and places they thought they knew, such as the zoo.
