Suspect arrested after pursuit

A police pursuit that began shortly before 2:30 Sunday a.m. near 24th and Odell St. in Great Bend ended a short time later near 29th and Quivira Ave. Suspect Joshua Smith from Hays allegedly fled on foot but was later found and arrested, according to Lt. Williams Browne at the Great Bend Police Department.

Shots fired in Great Bend

At 11 p.m. Sunday, the Great Bend Police Department received multiple reports from people who heard shots fired in the area of Sixth and Odell St. Two men and a woman were contacted in the front yard of 521 Odell St., and a case was taken. No one was arrested.

Arrests made after man hit in head with golf club

Three Great Bend residents were arrested on aggravated battery charges Wednesday after a 25-year-old male was hit in the head with a golf club. The Great Bend Police Department was dispatched to 1445 Park Ave. at 1:34 p.m. and located suspects over the next hour.

​Two injured at K-96 and Patton Road

An injury accident was reported at 12:22 p.m. Wednesday when two vehicles collided at K-96 and Patton Road. The Great Bend Police Department reports Jairo Martinez was driving northeast on Patton Road in a Lincoln Navigator and failed to yield right of way to a Chrysler Town and Country van driven by Leroy Rube, who was traveling northwest on K-96. Rube and passenger Dorothy Rube were transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital.

PTSD picture book author visits Hoisington Public Library

Kids at the Hoisington Public Library had the opportunity to meet a true American hero Wednesday afternoon. Seth Kastle, author of "Why is dad so mad?", a book about post traumatic stress disorder. He brought along his uniform, a ceremonial sword owned by his friend, a fallen soldier he served with in Afghanistan, and other military memorabilia.

Pump prices unexpectedly jump

Average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have risen 7.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.63 per gallon earlier this weekly, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,329 gas outlets in Kansas. This compares with the national average that has increased 5.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.81.

Fatal collision in Barton County

An Ellsworth woman died when the vehicle she was driving collided with another vehicle on K-156, 14 miles northeast of Great Bend at 4:19 p.m. on Tuesday. A 2000 Mazda protege driven by Teresa Mehl, age 45, was travelling east on K-156 and crossed into the westbound lane, colliding with a 2012 GMC Sierra 2500 driven by Andrew Kirkpatrick, 31, from Ellinwood.
