Aktion Club sharing warmth, color and tacos

The Rosewood Miracle Workers Aktion Club is conducting two community service drives through Nov. 30, sharing the gift of warmth and making the lives of children a little more colorful. The group, affiliated with the Great Bend Kiwanis Club, is also offering a taco dinner fundraiser on Sept. 30, said club sponsor Frankie Pelster at Rosewood Services.

Collectors’ ID workshop set for Lyons

The Coronado Quivira Museum will be the site for the Collectors' ID Workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Coronado Quivira Museum, located at 105 West Lyon in Lyons. Archeologists will be on hand to examine and help identify artifacts which are brought into the museum by regional residents. The identification workshop is hosted by the Mud Creek chapter of the Kansas Anthropological Association.

Two congregations to host praise and worship Sunday

When Heartland Community Church started in August of 2014, the First United Congregational Church was gracious and welcoming in sharing their facilities with the new church. As members of the two churches got to know each other, relationships and friendships began to form. Because of those bonds and a shared love of music and worship, the two churches will join together Sunday, Sept. 18, for the Second Annual Evening of Praise and Worship. The service will be held at the church at 3400 21st St. at 6:30 p.m.

Woman robbed after being threatened with knife

Authorities are investing an alleged robbery that took place at 2:20 a.m. on Friday after a woman in the area of the 1400 Block of 11th street said an unknown suspect threatened her with a large knife and took her property, Great Bend Police Chief Cliff Couch said.

Ellinwood City Council approves drainage easements

ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood's City Council considered two offers to purchase the building located at 104 N. Main Street Tuesday night. The building was located adjacent to two condemned buildings purchased by the city in 2014 at a tax sale. Hoping to demolish the buildings and free up space on Main Street for new construction, the city halted work when it became apparent that the demolition put 104 N. Main at risk for damage.
