Great Bend native Tory Marie Arnberger has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative, 112th District. Arnberger believes that her passion and experience will help Great Bend and Hoisington become stronger.
Barton County Attorney Doug Matthews late Friday afternoon rejected the petition filed to recall all the members of the USD 428 School Board, noting problems with the filing itself and because the allegations made were legally insufficient to warrant such action.
The Barton County Historical Museum and Village will conduct its annual Orientation Meeting at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Village south of the Arkansas River bridge on U.S. 281. The meeting is for anyone in Barton County who seeks information about volunteer service at the museum. This meeting will help volunteers, new or returning, to become acquainted with life at the Village and to learn more about the new happenings and the many new displays at the museum, said Karen Naylor, volunteer coordinator.
The Family and Schools Together (FAST) program in Great Bend brings families back to school for evening meetings that include meals, activities and prizes. On Thursday, the school board approved several contributions, including $1,400 so Park Elementary can purchase 10 tables.
The Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education approved two major purchases Thursday for its One-To-One technology initiative. These purchases will allow the district to issue a Chromebook mobile laptop computer to every student in grades 2-12 this fall.
