All writers, authors and poets are invited to attend the 6th District Writers Club meeting at 1:30 p.m. on April 23, at the Delos Smith Center at 101 West First Street in Hutchinson. Guest Speaker will be George Martin of Ellinwood, columnist, poet, published author and storyteller. There will be a writing contest and prizes for those voted the "best authors of the day." Great Bend Middle School track coaches Stacey Magnett and Carley Wells hand out gloves to team members preparing to pick up trash at Veterans Memorial Park. There are 115 students on GBMS track teams and they ran from the school to the park Tuesday after school for a community service project.
RUSSELL - The group Artists at Large is featured in the new exhibit at the Deines Cultural Center. The opening reception will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the Center, located at 820 North Main in Russell.
Last Friday and Saturday eight Great Bend High School Speech students competed at the District National Qualifying Tournament at McPherson High School. Sara Allen, a junior, competed in Original Oration and Dramatic Interpretation and Malia Clark, a senior, competed in Dramatic Interpretation. Garrett Dykes competed in Duo Interpretation with Geoffrey Pafford and both are Freshman. Paffford and Dykes also competed in Humorous Interpretation and Dykes was a semi-finalist. Makinna Dykes, a Junior, was a semi-finalist in oration and was a finalist with her Informative speech and placed fifth. Lisa Marlow, a sophomore, competed in Dramatic Interpretation and Informative.
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Dayton Security in the Chamber Board Room, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Host will be Kevin Sundahl with greeters Marty Steinert and Pete Schartz. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.
