New council president picked

A divided Great Bend City Council voted Tuesday night to reinstate suspended Police Chief Clifton Couch. The action met with cheers and a standing ovation from a capacity crowd crammed in the Great Bend Events Center.

BCC Foundation’s auction raises $40,000

The proceeds from items sold, underwriters, program ads and ticket sales netted $40,000 at the 39th Annual Big Benefit Auction in late August. These funds benefit students directly through scholarships and program enhancements at Barton Community College.

As DACA ends, fate of ‘Dreamers’ left to Congress

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced the end of a program that allowed some 800,000 undocumented immigrants who came to this country as children to delay deportation. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, instituted by President Barack Obama in 2012, was rescinded, but President Trump and others - including Kansas lawmakers - urged Congress to enact laws to protect those hurt by the action.

Stolen guns found in drug raid

Suspected methamphetamine and stolen guns were seized when the Barton County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant last Friday at 1434 17th St. in Great Bend, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. Two suspects were arrested.

LHS Homecoming candidates announced

LARNED - Homecoming royalty candidates for Larned High School have been selected and a crowning ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:20 p.m., Friday evening, Sept. 8, prior to kick-off of the Indian's first home game of the 2017 season.
