Three arrested after search warrant

Three people were arrested on drug and other related charges at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday after Barton County Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant in the 5900 block of Eisenhower Court in the city of Great Bend, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

GBRC has openings for after school programs

The Great Bend Recreation Commission has openings in the after school programs at Jefferson Elementary School. These programs are for ages 5–12 and will be held at Jefferson Elementary School from 3:30-5 p.m.

Vehicle crash sends local teen to hospital

Barton County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of North Washington at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday for a reported injury crash where Jacob Lane, 16, of Great Bend received injuries.

BCC Bookstore to host coffee

This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Barton Community College Bookstore, on the upper level of the Student Union, 245 NE 30 Rd,, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Host Barry Bowers will be with greeters Sonya Rein and Pete Schartz. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.

Commission marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Veterans service rep to visit

A Veterans Service Representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs will be at the Great Bend Kansas Works Center at 1025 Main from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 12, to assist veterans and their families in applying for VA benefits. His schedule is the 2nd Thursday of each month.

The Great Bend Fire Department welcomed its new Fire Chief Luke McCormick as he has taken over for retired Fire Chief Mike Napolitano. McCormick has goals set for the department, focusing on getting a full staff and on safety for all.
