BCC Commencement

The Barton Community College Gymnasium floor is filled with the blue caps and gowns of more than 140 graduates who chose to walk at the college's 47th annual commencement ceremony Friday evening. Graduates from all walks of life and multiple countries heard from their educators, peers and guest speaker Col. John Lawrence, Garrison Commander of Fort Riley, before receiving their degrees. At the podium is Dean of Student Services Angie Maddy.

Driver injured when car goes off K-96

RUSH COUNTY - A Rush Center woman was injured Wednesday afternoon after the car she was driving went off K-96 and struck a power pole, 4 miles east of Rush Center. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the driver, Marissa C. Wagner, 20, was able to get out of the car, which became fully engulfed with fire. She was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital with undetermined injuries.

Garrison Commander to address BCC grads

Colonel John Lawrence, Garrison Commander at Fort Riley, will give the commencement address at Barton Community College. BCC's 47th commencement is set for 7 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the Barton Gymnasium.

Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest winners

Barton Community College has announced the winners of its Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest. The winners are Allison Peak, Sophie Oss and Thitipong Homruen. Each winner received a $100 Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development gift certificate.

BCC trustees review contracts, insurance

Barton Community College's Board of Trustees reviewed the list of contracts for head coaches, management staff and administrators during a study session this week. Barton President Dr. Carl Heilman said not much has changed and no new contracts have been offered.

Boeckman case sent to special prosecutor

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has submitted the findings of its investigation into former Barton County Administrator Richard Boeckman to the Barton County Attorney's Office. County Attorney Amy Mellor said Wednesday she has referred the matter to a special prosecutor.
