Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a recognition of retiring Road and Bridge Director Dale Phillips, Kansas Association of Counties Roads Scholars and repairs to the bridge on SW 50 Avenue (Radium blacktop).

City of Great Bend water quality report is available

The City of Great Bend water consumer confidence report covering calendar year 2016 is now available, said Director of Public Works Charlie Suchy. However, the brochure will not be mailed to residents. Instead, the City of Great Bend Water Department will provide a copy of the 2016 Water Consumer Confidence Report on the main page of the city's website at www.greatbendks.net.

Plans discussed for 10th, Grant improvements

Great Bend City Administrator Howard Partington traveled to the Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., recently to discuss the 10th and Grant geometric improvement project, along with the possible development of Eighth Street from Grant to McKinley streets.

County gets federal funds for ice storm damage

Mother Nature was a hot topic for Barton County Road and Bridge Director as his department received $46,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency relative to the February ice storm. Meanwhile, his staff continues to deal with the aftermath of the flooding and wind related to late May and early June storms.

2016 city audit approved

The Great Bend City Council Monday night learned the city received an "unmodified" opinion for its 2016, and voted to accept the findings report as presented.

City auction set for Friday

The City of Great Bend will have its annual public auction starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday next to the Police Department, 1217 Williams. To be sold will be unused city equipment, lost or unclaimed property, bicycles, tools and other items. Auctioneer will be Ken Schremmer of Schremmer Realty Auction and Appraisers LC.

The city of Great Bend has entered into an agreement with Edward L. Keeley, an attorney with the Wichita law firm McDonald Tinker to provide legal services "as requested, to the Mayor of the City of Great Bend and its City Council."
