Firefighters plan MDA Boot Block

Firefighters in Great Bend have a tradition of supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. On Friday, Aug. 29, firefighters will hold their annual MDA Boot Block, asking the public to fill their boots with donations. They will be at Walmart, both Dillons stores and True Value from 4 to 7 p.m.

Historical Society taking reservations for dinner meeting

Barton County Historical Society will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 in the main museum. There will be a catered meal and social hour for members and potential members. Reservations must be made by Friday, Aug. 15 by calling the museum, 620-793-5125, or emiling bchsdirector@gmail.com. The cost of the meal will be $9.50, payable at the door. It will include pulled beef and pork, potato salad, vegetables and more served by Tom Burns.

Credit card scams fail

A rural Barton County man contacted the Barton County Sheriff's Office on Saturday to report an attempted fraud. He said he received a text that his Visa account had been "locked." He was given a number to call and was asked for secure information, which he did not provide. He also called his financial institution and was told nothing was wrong with his card.
