The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the City Office, 1209 Williams. On the agenda are several issues regarding new housing developments, the 2015 budget ordinance, a sewer rate increase ordinance and a salary resolution for city employees.

Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes the renewal of a farm lease at the Barton County Landfill, a cooperative effort to repair roads in Claflin and the proposed demolition of an historic bridge.

Firefighters plan MDA Boot Block

Firefighters in Great Bend have a tradition of supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association. On Friday, Aug. 29, firefighters will hold their annual MDA Boot Block, asking the public to fill their boots with donations. They will be at Walmart, both Dillons stores and True Value from 4 to 7 p.m.

United States government commodities will be distributed from 5-6 p.m. Monday at the Great Bend Kansas Department of Children and Families office, 1305 Patton Road. Historical Society taking reservations for dinner meeting

Barton County Historical Society will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 in the main museum. There will be a catered meal and social hour for members and potential members. Reservations must be made by Friday, Aug. 15 by calling the museum, 620-793-5125, or emiling bchsdirector@gmail.com. The cost of the meal will be $9.50, payable at the door. It will include pulled beef and pork, potato salad, vegetables and more served by Tom Burns.
