Party under the stars

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center will host its annual viewing party for the Perseid Meteor Shower. Activities will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, and continue until it's dark enough to see the meteor shower. The center is located between Great Bend and Claflin at 592 NE K-156.

Community Service Tax Credit Program awards announced

The Kansas Department of Commerce announced today that 23 nonprofit organizations will share $4.13 million in tax credits under the Kansas Community Service Tax Credit Program (CSP). Since 1994, CSP has helped nonprofit organizations undertake major capital fund-raising drives for various projects.

The Hoisington Police Department responded to the report of a FRAUD/SCAM to a local business. Investigation revealed that a male caller had contacted a Hoisington business alleging they had not paid their City utility bill for two months.

Commission OKs revised CKCC budget

In April, the Barton County Commission OKed the 2016 Central Kansas Community Corrections Comprehensive Plan request totaling $468,482. This basically amounts to the CKCC's budget, but the funds come from the state and require county approval.

​Shot fired in altercation in Great Bend

A man told police he was grazed by a bullet during a confrontation in the 2000 block of 11th St. around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Great Bend Police Chief Clifton Couch said. The injury was described as minor and police were unsure whether it came from the actual bullet or from the scuffle when he tried to grab the gun. He declined medical treatment at the scene.
