Repurposed exhibit: Shafer Gallery to host reception

Barton Community College's Shafer Art Gallery will host an opening reception for its "Repurposed" exhibit from 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 26 in the Shafer Gallery. The exhibit will feature the sophisticated cardboard constructions of Jessie Montes and "Heidegger's Ghost," a visual essay concerning the themes of ontology, New York City and personal vision by Scott Thein.

First-ever Legacy Award goes to Yowell

During the 94th Annual Meeting & Banquet for the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development, Skip Yowell was posthumously recognized as the first recipient of the Legacy Award for putting Great Bend on the map through lifelong advocacy for the outdoor industry and for proudly hailing his roots in Great Bend wherever he went.

Hiss recognized as NexGen Leader

During the 94th Annual Meeting & Banquet for the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development, Matt Hiss was recognized as the 2015 NextGen Leader of the Year for his impressive efforts to give back to the Great Bend community. This award program was launched in 2013 as a joint project of the organization's board of directors and the Barton County Young Professionals Group to recognize up-and-coming leaders for their volunteer service.

Community pride earns Johnson Citizen of the Year

Of the 50 years that Sunflower Diversified Services has been serving people with developmental disabilities, Jim Johnson has been at the helm for 42. For his diligent work advocating for an underserved portion of the area population, Johnson received the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award from the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development.
