Taking Flight

It was a perfect day, according to the pilots, for taking to the skies for the 2016 Fly Kansas Air Tour. This is a three-day, nine-city celebration of Kansas aviation and one of the stops during this tour was the Great Bend municipal Airport.

Info sought on stolen boat

Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend is seeking information about the theft of a green Lowe jon boat and trailer, with a tarp. The boat was stolen sometime between Sept. 22 and 25 from a residence at 2800 Williams St. in Great Bend.

Appraiser’s Office gathering data to set 2017 values

The Barton County Appraiser's Office is in the process of collecting new construction information and reviewing properties that have sold, County Appraiser Barb Esfeld said. For each property that has sold, personnel will verify the data on record and take a picture of the property. "These properties assist the office in analyzing the market and market conditions to value properties in the upcoming year," she said.

Dueling Pianos fundraiser slated for Argonne All-Stars

A dinner and dueling pianos show, "Fun Pianos 176 Keys," will take place Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Great Bend Events Center. The fundraiser for the Argonne Rebels All-Star Cheer Team will start with a social hour at 7 p.m., followed by a fried chicken dinner catered by Wheatland Cafe at 7:30 p.m. The two-hour show will begin around 8:30 p.m. and is recommended for mature audiences.

GBHS Jazz Band offers Popcorn & Pop concert

Music fans are invited to join the Great Bend High School Panther Jazz Band for Pop and Popcorn at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct 4 for the annual Fall Concert. The concert will be in the relaxed atmosphere of the GBHS Jack Kilby Commons Area where audience members can enjoy munching on popcorn, and sipping a pop or bottled water.

County receives insurance dividend

Cody Smith of the Alliance Insurance Group Monday morning presented a $11,978.36 dividend return check as a result of the county's participation in the Kansas County Safety Dividend Group with EMC Insurance Companies, making the six-year dividend total over $136,000.
