Student recital May 7

Barton Community College will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157. The recital is free.

Endowment Concert to raise money for scholarships

The Barton Community College music department awards 11 scholarships every year at about $1,000 each and 20 performance awards for non-music major students, which enables them to participate in ensembles. This could not be done without the community's support of the annual Music Endowment Concert, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 4, in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Bridge work to cause road closings

Starting Monday, NE 60 Avenue north of U.S. 56 and NE 30 Road one mile east of K-156 will be closed due to road and bridge construction, The Barton County Road and Bridge Department announced Friday. The work will take approximately one week.

5K Color Run/Walk

Color Your World, a 5K Color Walk/Run sponsored by the Otis-Bison KAY Club, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the High School. Entry fee is $5 for students through 12th grade and $10 for adults.

Great Bend High School musicians achieved superior ratings at the State Festival last Saturday at Emporia High School. USD 428 Board of Education meeting

USD 428 Board of Education will meet at noon on Thursday at Lincoln Elementary School, 5630 Broadway. Items on the agenda include approval of photography quote; approval of grant application; and approval of licensed teacher/administrator resignations and licensed personnel appointments. Lincoln Elementary School Principal Misty Straub and other staff members will share information regarding the academic programs and the school improvement efforts at the school.

Young Professionals can learn about K-12 options

Members of the Barton County Young Professionals group are invited to attend the luncheon program, "School Enrollment Options," on Tuesday, May 5, at Pizza Hut, 4101 10th St. There will be a panel of local K-12 education providers, from both public and private schools. The program is free to attend, but participants must pay for their meals. The presentation will run from 12:15 -12:45 p.m., with door prize drawings.
