Barton Community College is celebrating a 10-year partnership with a Great Bend business, Advanced Therapy & Sports Medicine. Together they created the Limited Liability Company WorkFit, which offers employers physical capacity testing for new employees or current employees being introduced to new work responsibilities, said Elaine Simmons, dean of Workforce Training & Community Education at the college.
The 2016-2017 flu season is rapidly approaching and the Barton County Health Department is prepared. The office will have the vaccines available starting Monday and will hold outreach clinics countywide.

ELLINWOOD - A visit almost a year in the planning brought author and Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan to the Ellinwood High School gymnasium Tuesday, first for a presentation to Ellinwood Middle School students and visitors from surrounding communities. Then, in the evening, Lazan made a second appearance, meeting adults from the community at an Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce after hours, and presenting her message of hope and perseverance to a crowd of nearly 150.
The Pride of Wildcat Land, the Kansas State University Marching Band, will be joined by band alumni and high school bands from across the state for Band Day at the football game Saturday, Sept. 24, between the Wildcats and Missouri State.
A new sound system purchased for the Great Bend High School Gymnasium could change the experience of watching a program in the gym, school administrators said Monday. It is being installed at the same time as a new scoreboard, during "dead week," also known as the Kansas State High School Activities Association Fall Athletic Buffer Week, Nov. 13-19.
Members of the Kansas Association of School Boards visited Great Bend on Monday to talk to Dr. Roger Marshall, the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, District 1. Great Bend USD 428 hosted the luncheon meeting at the District Education Center, and four school board members also attended.
