A generation ago, a tablet for school might refer to a Big Chief tablet of wide-lined writing paper. Today, the word "tablet" can refer to is a wireless, portable personal computer with a touchscreen.

Janel Rose, health educator with the Barton County Health Department, is laying the groundwork for a local food system assessment, and received valuable feedback from farmers market vendors Thursday night, Oct. 20, at an end-of-season conversation at the Barton County Health Department. The group met on the heels of two other community connections dinners held at Hoisington and Great Bend three weeks ago.

Joint extension council on commission agenda Monday morning

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a discussion about a joint extension council with Ellis and Barton counties, appointments to the Barton County Community Development Advisory Board and the purchase of a Caterpillar 287 compact track loader for the Barton County Landfill.

Workshop at KWEC open to farmers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will hold an informational workshop for farmers at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, 592 NE K-156. Speakers from K-State Extension, Farm Service Agency, and NRCS will talk about services, price-support loan programs and financial assistant opportunities available through their organizations for farmers of all kinds.
