HOISINGTON - Hoisington residents are encouraging children to pick up books at an early age - even before they are able to read. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is coming to town as a United Way of Central Kansas program, and USD 431 will hold a read-a-thon to raise money for the initiative, Superintendent Bill Lowry said.

Changes to Scenic Byway could benefit Ellinwood

ELLINWOOD - Richard Kimple represents the City of Ellinwood on the board for the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway. In addition to being one of 12 Kansas scenic byways, this local byway is one of only two federal scenic byways in Kansas, running from Cheyenne Bottoms to Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. Tuesday night, Kimple reported to the Ellinwood City Council on recent changes to the byway committee and its funding, some of which have resulted in new opportunities for Ellinwood.

Those looking for something fun to do this spring break are invited to make a trip to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Spend an hour or half a day at the come-and-go events. Starting this Saturday, March 18, the KWEC will have special, free programs and activities each day through March 26 for visitors of all ages.
