Correction: City skate rink will not be available

The Great Bend Tribune incorrectly stated in Thursday's edition that the city's artificial ice skating rink that is normally set up in Jack Kilby Square at Christmas will be in use this year. However, it will not be available and this is due to the pending renovations to the square. The Tribune regrets the error.

Remodeled Ed Center would enlarge board room

Dozens of students and parents waited in the foyer of the Great Bend USD 428 District Education Center on Monday before joining the school board meeting already in progress. If the board approves a remodeling project proposed by Superintendent Brad Reed that night, some day there will be a larger board room with a new entrance.

Driver, pedestrian offer 2 versions of accident

Great Bend Police investigated two injury accidents last Saturday on 10th Street. Neither involved life-threatening injuries, according to the police reports which were released Wednesday.

Bridge closed northwest of Great Bend

The Barton County Engineering Department announced Wednesday afternoon that the bridge over Walnut Creek on NW 20 Avenue between 30 and 40 roads will be closed until further notice. The bridge is located northwest of Great Bend.

Taking advantage of good weather

ELLINWOOD- Tuesday afternoon, Ellinwood city workers and representatives from Lakin Township made steady progress building up the Park Ave. road bed just north of Woodhaven Care Center, leading to the Ellinwood Municipal Airport at the western edge of the city. The work is part of flood control efforts the city has undertaken to prevent flooding like that witnessed following a 2014 storm that dumped about nine inches of rain in just a few hours.

GBRH honors area vets

More than 200 military veterans were served a hearty breakfast at Great Bend Regional Hospital during the health-care facility's sixth annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast on Friday morning, Nov. 11. The annual event always draws a crowd for the three-course homemade breakfast and the old-fashioned camaraderie.

Hoisington Main Street project completed

HOISINGTON - Code Enforcement Officer Dolores Kipper presented a report to the Hoisington City Council Monday night on her efforts to combat residential blight over the past year. She asked the council for their blessing to move forward on a campaign to enforce owners requirement to replace broken glass on windows, rather than simply boarding up the openings.
