USD 428 Board of Education meeting

USD 428 Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday at the District Education Office, 201 S. Patton Road. Items on the agenda include: approval of 2012-2013 business audit; trip proposal for the GBHS Dance Line; 2014-2015 fundraiser requests; Technology Committee update; Riley Elementary School HVAC and GBMS gym construction updates; and approval of two grant applications from Eisenhower School and Jefferson School.

Sterling College hosts Robert Burns Night January 7th

Sterling College is welcoming back new and old acquaintances on Saturday, Jan. 25, for Robert Burns Night. Recognizing the achievements of Robert Burns, Scottish poet and songwriter, this event will be one of many similar events held around the world on Jan. 25 to celebrate Burns's birthday. 2014 New Year Baby

Great Bend Regional Hospital and Barton County welcomed the first baby of 2014 on Jan. 3. Raegan Denae Alefs was born at 3:44 p.m. She weighed 5 pounds 1 oz. Her parents, Ashley and Ryan Alefs, were surprised as she was about three weeks early. Ashley is a RN at GBRH and had actually worked the few days before the birth. If she continues in her mothers footsteps, she will be a fourth generation nurse in the family.

VA rep to be in Great Bend Thursday

A Veterans Service Representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs will be at the Great Bend from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kansas Works Center, 1025 Main St., to assist veterans and their families in applying for Veterans Administration benefits.
