Dress Down the Town a real hit

The second-annual Dress Down the Town Nov. 18 was a success for the United Way of Central Kansas, said Julie Bugner Smith, UWCK executive director. The number of business participating was down slightly from last year, but over $1,600 was raised to help support the Literacy Kits that will be distributed to pre-K students in Barton and Pawnee Counties.

Ellinwood City Council to discuss traffic fines Tuesday

The Ellinwood City Council will meet Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the city office, 104 E. 2nd, to discuss a new fine schedule for standard traffic offences and review cereal malt beverage applications.

USD 431 Hoisington Board of Education to decide on Chromebooks

Hoisington's school board will meet Monday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the district office, 165 W. 3rd, where they will discuss where to invest bond proceeds for highest return. Action is expected on a bid to purchase new Chromebooks. Two executive sessions have been requested for the purpose of discussing personnel, one certified and one transportation.

Pawnee Rock City Council to discuss truck issue Monday

On Monday at 7 p.m. the Pawnee Rock City Council will meet at the city office, 508 Center St., to discuss formation of a work committee to find solutions to problem of semi-trucks parking on city streets, which has led to ongoing and extensive damage and noise complaints. Discussion about changes to election schedules will also be conducted. No actions are expected on either topic.

According to the Barton County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 3, at approximately 10:35 p.m. two subjects arrived at the Barton County Jail to report a battery.

Sixth-annual toy drive to be held Sunday

Coldwell Banker Sell Real Estate in Great Bend, along with Wal-Mart and Eagle Radio are joining forces to sponsor the 6th Annual Christmas for Kids Toy Drive to benefit Saint Francis Community Services. Through this toy drive, wishes are fulfilled for children in Saint Francis foster care, adoption, and family preservation programs. Christmas For Kids provides presents to children and teens, ages newborn to eighteen, who may otherwise go without a gift this holiday season. You can make a real difference in the life of a child in Central Kansas this Christmas.

Injury accident in Barton County

An injury accident was reported at 4:27 p.m. Wednesday, at SE 105 Ave. and SE 20 Road. A vehicle driven by Travis Mayer, of Hudson, was heading southbound out of Ellinwood on SE 105 Ave. The vehicle drove off the right side of the road, over corrected going left of center hitting the guard rail of a bridge. The vehicle went across the road hitting the other guard rail. Mayer was transported to Ellinwood District Hospital. Results are pending for DUI.

Shafer Gally to host 'Holiday Open House'

All ages can get a dose of the holiday spirit at The Shafer Art Gallery's "Holiday Open House" reception from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, which will feature a free puppet show from Kansas City's Clement McCrae Puppet Shows at 1:30 and 3 p.m. Admission is free.
