Traveling exhibit, K is for Kansas, on display at Ellinwood library

ELLINWOOD - An exhibit that opened at the Ellinwood School and Public Library last week has been a draw for young and old alike. The "K is for Kansas" travelling exhibit opened earlier this month, courtesy of the Kauffman Museum, and will be on display until Feb. 11.

More cancellations announced as storm looms

When the National Weather Service office at Wichita issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and Winter Storm Watch for most of central Kansas last Thursday, Barton County residents prepared for the worst. The Barton County Sheriff's Office urged caution and reported that the Road and Bridge Department was prepared for a major storm with up to 1 inch accumulation of ice Friday through Sunday.

LIEAP application period opens Tuesday, Jan. 17

During the cold winter months, heating a home can be a financial strain. In order to ensure Kansans keep warm this winter, the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) will begin accepting applications for its Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Police seize meth, marijuana ‘vape’ vials

Traffic stops led to more than one drug bust this past week in Great Bend, Police Chief Cliff Couch said. Two suspects were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and methamphetamine, while another person had "vape" vials containing suspected marijuana oil.

Local drivers license office to close for remodeling

The Barton County Driver License Office in Great Bend will be closed for renovations starting Friday, Jan. 27. The tentative re-open date is Friday, Feb. 10. Those needing service can go to another office, but local officials encourage that one call ahead before traveling there so they have all the documents they need.
