Album feat. GB native Pinkall hits No. 1 on 'Billboard'

MANHATTAN - The acclaimed new album celebrating Rachmaninoff, featuring Great Bend native and K-State music professor Bryan Pinkall, is topping the music charts around the world. Following his success as artistic director of the production of the 2014 Olympic Opening Ceremony the award-winning assistant professor of music at Kansas State University performs on the recording of Rachmaninoff's "All-Night Vigil" with two Grammy-winning ensembles. Since its release on March 10, the album has reached No. 1 on iTunes, Amazon, and on Thursday it debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Classical Albums and Traditional Classical music charts.

Guided 'lek' tours offered at wetlands

Just before the sun rises over the vast grasslands each spring, while most people are still snug in their beds, prairie-chickens are busy putting on a show that is critical to their survival. In April, staff from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center will lead guided field trips to watch the birds' mating rituals at Cheyenne Bottoms.

There's still time to sign up for the Kansas Wetlands Education Center's last Turtle Tot Club session by calling 1-877-243-9268 to register by March 23. For preschool-age children, ages 3 to 5, Egg-citement, will be presented 10 to 11 a.m., March 25. From insect to bird eggs, children will explore eggs of all kinds and sizes, participate in an egg experiment and make an egg craft. There is a minimum enrollment of 6 and a maximum of 15 children. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver and pre-registration is required.
