Cardboard animal creates tiger diversion

Macy Moyers wanted to do something special for her final week as a summer intern at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo. She created a large cardboard animal and on Wednesday zookeepers placed it in the enclosure of Sunny, the Bengal tiger.

Southwest Kansas Weatherization Program will have new service providers

A 25-county region in southwest Kansas will be split and will receive new service providers for the Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program this month. The region had been served by Interfaith Housing Services Inc. for the previous nine years.

Teachers count on NUMBERS training

Thirty-seven educators times two days times six hours equals a whole lot of numbers – 444 to be exact. That's how many hours Great Bend USD 428 teachers, math coaches and administrators logged this week during the NUMBERS Training at the District Education Center.

Three arrested during search warrant

Barton County Sheriff's detectives executed a search warrant at 2:30 p.m. Monday at 306 Garfield St. in Olmitz. Three arrests were made in conjunction with the warrant, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

County Attorney files charge against Bruce

HOISINGTON - On Saturday, July 29, Robert Bruce turned himself in to the Barton County Sheriff's Office after he learned the Barton County Attorney had filed a warrant for his arrest on Monday, July 24. He was booked on a charge of criminal threat, and was released after bail was posted. He contacted The Great Bend Tribune by phone on Sunday.

Jacobs sentenced to 14 years for robbery, meth

Barton County Attorney Amy Mellor announced today that Lee Brett Jacobs appeared in Barton County District Court on Friday for sentencing on two felony cases. In May, Jacobs was convicted on a charge of robbery in one case, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) in a second case.
