Ellinwood City Council working with Scouts to repair cabin

Tuesday night the Ellinwood City Council met to hear progress on two projects that affect buildings in the city, and receive an update on developments with the Kansas Power Pool.

City Council meets Monday night

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the City Office, 1209 Williams. The agenda includes an update on the building at 2105 Forest (the old opera house), the removal of a lot from the Amber Meadows Rural Housing Incentive District and bids for improvements to the Events Center.

Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes Neighborhood Revitalization Program agreements with Ellinwood and Great Bend, a Mandamus Action with Johnson County regarding property values and the sale of surplus Road and Bridge Department equipment.

Boy Scouts will be ‘Scouting for Food’ Saturday

Members of the Boys Scouts of America organizations in Barton County will be "Scouting for Food" this Saturday, Nov. 14. The public is asked to help by donating nonperishable food items to local food banks. Items can be donated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day by leaving them in designated area at local grocery stores.

Claflin city council committed to keeping on top of blight

Monday night, the Claflin city council met at the city offices and heard from the owner of property at 409 3rd Street. The code enforcement officer served notice that the property was in violation of city codes concerning the upkeep of structures and storage of debris in August. Since then, Mayor Mike Urban said, the city has extended the deadline more than once.
