BCC to host RYLA camp for youth

Barton Community College will host the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp July 27-29 at Camp Aldrich. The RYLA program provides future leaders the opportunity to expand and hone their leadership skills and enables them to debate issues of professional responsibility and human relations, improve leadership and communication skills, and meet Rotarians while having fun and making friends.

Fund established for Booth family

A fund has been established at Landmark National Bank in Great Bend for members of the Ryan Booth family, who were involved in roll-over accident in Russell County on Sunday. The driver of the vehicle, Ryan Booth, 28, of Great Bend, was severely injured and flown from the scene via air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he is in critical condition with a broken neck and severe head injuries. Passengers 28-year-old Emma Booth, 7-year-old Aara Schuman, 5-year-old Alissa Booth, and 4-year-old Joane Booth were also injured in the accident. Wondra files for reelection as treasurer

Barton County Treasurer Kevin Wondra has filed for reelection to a second full term as County Treasurer. Wondra was first elected to the office in October 2007 by the Republican Precinct committee to complete the term of the retired Jan Karlin. He then won election to a full term in November 2008.

VA mobile office coming to Great Bend this week

The Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs Mobile Office is coming to Great Bend this week. The air-conditioned mobile office staffed with veteran service representatives will be at the Great Bend Dollar General store, 5318 10th street, from 2-7 p.m. Today, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Veterans can learn more about VA and state benefits and even apply for benefits on site. Community Concert Features Paul McDermand on Steel Drum and Marimba

Not often does the Golden Belt Community Concert Association feature a steel drum and marimba percussionist in concert. In fact, this month's performer is the first.
