Heartland Farm offers Fall Open Farm Day

PAWNEE ROCK - Heartland Farm will hold its annual Open Farm Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. Sponsors invite the public to bring a picnic lunch and spend the day. There is no charge for admission.

Gas stored in oven ignites Tuesday morning

At 9:49 a.m. Tuesday, Great Bend Fire Department was dispatched to 5817 16th St. Terrace for a report of an oven on fire. According to a report released Wednesday, crews found light smoke coming from Apartment 42. Inside, they found a smoldering fire along the baseboard of the wall behind the stove and extinguished the remaining fire.

GBHS Freshmen parent meeting

The Great Bend High School guidance counselors will host a freshman parent meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the GBHS auditorium. Counselors will review their responsibilities as counselors and also discuss attendance, grades, communication, office procedures, graduation requirements, qualified admissions/Kansas scholars requirements for getting into college and expectations for freshmen. This meeting will be about 30-45 minutes in length, depending on questions.

Calif. woman indicted for drug trafficking in Russell County

RUSSELL COUNTY – Teresa Magna, 51, Spring Valley, Calif., has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Wichita. She is charged with one count of distributing methamphetamine and one count of interstate travel in furtherance of drug trafficking. The crime is alleged to have occurred Aug. 6 in Russell County.
