Health department gives thousands of flu shots

The Barton County Health Department has given over 2,000 flu shots since September, plus another 2,000 so far this month, Health Director Shelly Schneider told the Barton County Commission Monday morning.

GBHS football ticket sales

Great Bend will host Topeka West at 7 p.m. on Friday at Memorial Stadium. Reserved seating is no longer available as all remaining games are KSHSAA regulated. However, to help reduce long lines at the ticket gates Friday night, general admission tickets will be sold in advance. You may purchase your general admission tickets for Friday's game at the Great Bend High School Activities Office from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Friday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Window breaking happening throughout the city

Trick or Treat

One hundred twenty children received Halloween buckets and costumes this past Saturday at the Great Bend Public Library's costume giveaway, according to Kiwanis President Barb Esfeld. This is the third year for the library and civic organization to collect and share new and used costumes.

BCC may extend naming rights on training center

The Barton Community College trustees will be asked to approve a scales certification program and extend the naming rights on a building during the next board meeting, set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 in room F-30, on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. Creation of the new vocational certificate program and extending the contract to name the Kip & Kelly Spray Family Strength Training Center were discussed earlier this month at a board study session.

Commission backs Sunflower’s transportation grant request

The Barton County Commission Monday morning approved a letter supporting Sunflower Diversified Services' application for a Kansas Department of Transportation grant applications. The funds would be used to continue the operation of the General Public Transportation System.

Deer-vehicle collision sends two to Clara Barton Hospital

Two people were taken to Clara Barton Hospital Saturday evening after a deer hit by a car was thrown into the windshield of an oncoming pickup, 4 miles west and 10 miles north of Hoisington on U.S. 281.

Motorcyclist injured on I-70

SALINE COUNTY - An Ellsworth man was injured Sunday when the motorcycle he was driving went off Interstate 70 at the Interstate 135 ramp. Kansas Highway Patrol reports Shawn A. Davis, 24, was going too fast for the conditions and the 2006 Harley-Davidson went off the road at 3:47 p.m.
