YouthFriends at Riley School sponsored a breakfast last Tuesday morning to show appreciation for their volunteers and their student matches. YouthFriends director Michelle Daniel said that CPI provides time off for nine employees to volunteer at Riley. "They are the best volunteers," Daniel said.

P&S Security at 1705 K-96 in Great Bend was burglarized on Sunday, Police Chief Dean Akings reports. A front window was broken to gain entry. Two rifles, 21 handguns, one pair of handcuffs and flashlights were stolen.
For the second year the Great Bend Public Library held its "Food for Fines" program to benefit the Barton County Food Bank.
A large metal shed sits on a trailer in pasture northeast of Great Bend Thursday afternoon. The structure was owned by Dr. Ray Leidich of Great Bend and bought (and relocated) by Jason Causey. Causey said it will be used to house his camper and as "an indoor playground for my kids." The building (which is over 100 feet long and wide) was hauled for about a mile down dirt roads by Kuhn's House Movers out of Victoria.
Earlier this year, Stafford County Flour Mills and the Golden Belt Community Foundation launched the "Give an Acre for Hudson" challenge as a way to build a savings account for the Hudson community. Throughout the summer and fall the agricultural community stepped forward, along with Stafford County Flour Mills matching each donation, to help raise $14,531.48 toward the overall goal of $20,000.
Wilson State Park will be taking campsite reservations for the 2011 camping season beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, Reservations done on January 3rd will be by a lottery drawing. The 12th Annual Christmas Day Dinner will be held at St. Michaels Parish Hall, 10th and Lincoln, in LaCrosse. A traditional homemade Christmas meal will be served. Some sugar-free pie and salad will be available. Everyone is invited. The meal is free as area businesses and groups provide the financing.

The Kiwanis are raising funds to build a cabin at the Victory Junction camp being built in Kansas City. This is a camp to serve children that have chronic and serious illnesses. At this time, the only camp exists in Randleman, N.C. and was built in 2004 on honor of Adam Petty. It cost $250,000 to build a cabin and the cost to send a child to camp is $2,500, but no child or family incurs that cost thanks to generous donors.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City issused a winter weather advisory for Pawnee, Stafford and Hodgeman counties, Friday including the cities of Larned, Stafford, St. John, Hudson, Hanston and Jetmore.
