The Barton County Historical Society Village and Museum was originally conceived as a tribute to "man on the plains," but the current exhibit pays tribute to women. There also an exhibit dedicated to African Americans with ties to Barton County.

Hoisington EMS Director Scott Fleming shared news with the city council Monday evening concerning the status of a grant requested from the Kansas Board of EMS to replace a monitor on the city's second-out truck. The original application was for the purchase price of a Zoll M-Series monitor for $31,804.77. The grant application requested a split of 75-25, with the city's share to be $7,915.19. Great Bend is home to the Central Kansas Library System, CKLS, which operates out of the same building as the Great Bend Public Library. It is one of seven regional library systems in the state. A late bill that the Kansas House is considering now could spell the elimination of this and the other six library systems in the state.
