Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting to be held Tuesday

The Barton County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse. The agenda will include a discussion on Severe Weather Awareness Week 2017, election of 2017 Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, and reports from members.

Ice storm state of emergency on commission Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a state of emergency declaration for Barton County due to the ice storm and damage, a matching-fund request for SouthW est Kansas Area Agency on Aging and a listing of open position on the Center for Counseling and Consultation Governing Board, Community Development Advisory Board, Health Advisory Board, Memorial Parks Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission.

PAWNEE COUNTY – A Larned man died in a one-vehicle crash at around 3:30 p.m. Friday northwest of Larned in Pawnee County, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

King UMC prepares for annual ham & bean supper

King United Methodist Church will hold its annual ham & bean benefit supper from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at the church, located at 10th and Odell in Great Bend. The menu includes ham & beans, corn bread, relishes, cake and drink. Freewill donations accepted; carry-out available.

Barton County seeks '100 Who Care'

Local residents hope to raise $10,000 for charity in one hour through a new group called "100 Who Care Barton County." The plan is to find at least 100 people willing to donate $100 to a worthy cause, and to repeat the process every quarter in 2017.

GBHS students plan dinner theater

Great Bend High School students are selling tickets for a dinner theater production, "Dark Road," on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 24-25. Dinner will start at 6 p.m. each night in the GBHS commons area, with the show to follow. Tickets are $10 per person or $15 for a couple and will be available at the door.

American Legion reschedules soup supper

The Great Bend American Legion Post 180 soup supper that was scheduled for this week and been rescheduled due to the recent ice storm. The supper will be held Monday, Jan. 23. It will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 1011 Kansas Ave.

Barton Co. Historical Society annual meeting
