County OKs funding for Sunflower early ed

The Barton County Commission Monday morning approved funding Sunflower Diversified Early Childhood Intervention Program for $15,000. The money was included in the county's 2017 operating budget and this is something the county has done since 1970.

Chamber Coffee hosted by Ed Jones

BCC’s Camp Aldrich now tax exempt

Following a successful appeal filed with the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals, Barton Community College will no longer have to pay property taxes on its Camp Aldrich. This exemption may have a profound effect on smaller taxing entities, including Logan Township where the facility is located, the Barton County Commission learned Monday.

GBHS grads to receive Chromebooks

Students graduating from Great Bend High School this month will get to keep the Chromebooks that were assigned to them in 2015, Superintendent Khris Thexton told the school board Monday evening.

Vet service rep to be in Great Bend

A veterans service representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs will be at the Great Bend Works Center at 1025 Main Street from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, to assist veterans and their families in applying for VA benefits. Area veterans are encouraged to inquire and see if their health condition is linked to their time in service.
