BCSO makes burglary arrest

A Great Bend man was arrested Wednesday morning following a traffic stop during which Barton County Sheriff's Office deputies found stolen items, according to a BCSO news release.

Ellinwood city council considers Splash Pad funding

Several points of new business made for a long but informative Ellinwood City Council meeting Tuesday night. Mayor Irlan Fullbright congratulated returning council persons James McCormick and Kirk Clawson, as well as newly elected Ken Lebbin who will filled an open spot. Also-ran Kathy Hines was also in attendance at the meeting, and during visitor comments congratulated Lebbin for his success, before objecting to the decision to install Chris Komarek as the acting City Manager following Bud Newberry's resignation earlier in March.

Comment period for Quivira impairment complaint extended

QUIVIRA WILDLIFE REFUGE - No action will be taken this year regarding the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's complaint that junior water rights holders have for years usurped the agency's water for wildlife that rely on the critical Quivira National Wildlife Refuge in Stafford County.

Property, oil and gas valuations on their way

Personal property valuations and oil and gas valuations will be mailed on or before May 1. Taxpayers have 15 days after valuations are mailed to appeal the valuations or classification if they believe they are incorrect, Barton County Appraiser Barb Esfeld told county commissioners Monday morning.

Friends of Cheyenne Bottoms annual meeting

The Friends of Cheyenne Bottoms annual meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Wetlands Education Center, 592 NE K-156 Highway. Prior to a short business meeting, members will be treated to a meal of hamburgers and hot dogs. After the meeting, Don Kazmaier will give a presentation on how to attract hummingbirds. Kazmaier, of Larned, has been attracting several species of hummers to his yard for many years and has grown and tested several flower varieties, developing a list of plants hardy enough to grow in South Central Kansas.
