Prairie Godmothers offer 'Sparkles & Spirits'

Current and prospective Prairie Godmothers are invited to a holiday cocktail party to benefit The Prairie Godmother Funds in celebration of #GivingTuesday. "Sparkles & Spirits" will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Renue Salon & Spa, 1405 Main Street, Great Bend. Drop off a monetary donation and stay if you can for complimentary hors-d'oeuvres, festive desserts and holiday spirits. No reservation necessary.

Odd Fellows lodge celebrates 145th anniversary

Valley Lodge No. 95 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows celebrated its 145th anniversary Thursday night, Oct. 19, with a special dinner and meeting. The members of the Great Bend lodge were joined by brothers from St. John Lodge No. 539 and Jr. Past Grand Master Richard McDiffett from Pratt Lodge No. 248. During the meeting, the minutes from their very first meeting on July 31, 1872, were read, acknowledging that they received a dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Kansas to form a lodge. Young Eagle Day offers kids free airplane rides

ELLSWORTH - Smoky Hill EAA Chapter No. 1127 will host a Young Eagle Day on Saturday Nov. 4, at the Ellsworth airport. Young people age 8 to 17 are welcome to experience a demonstration flight in an airplane. The flights are provided free of charge to any youth wishing to participate.

The Sons of the Plains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution hosted a Western Kansas Regional Meeting at the Lone Wolf Restaurant in Ellinwood on Saturday, Oct. 7. State Society President Dennis Nelson of Overland Park, Vice President Bobbie Hulse of McPherson, Western Vice President Stan Jantz of Hoisington, and Color Guard Commander Dewey Fry of Stilwell were on hand to help with installation of 15 new members. Albert Sayler feted with grave marking ceremony

The Sons of the Plains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution honored late SAR Compatriot Albert Lowell Sayler with a grave marking ceremony at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Great Bend Cemetery, 4500 Broadway, Great Bend. State President Dennis Nelson, State Vice President Bobbie Hulse and State Color Guard Commander Dewey Fry were on hand to provide honors. Justin Engleman, Great Bend, president of the Sons of the Plains Chapter, was master of ceremonies and delivered the memorial address.
