Touched by Cancer group meets Tuesday

Touched by Cancer Support Group will have a sharing meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the Heartland Cancer Center. Dana Foss will present the program, "Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul."

Preceptor Pi hosts Founder’s Day Celebration

Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi hosted the Beta Sigma Phi Founder's Day celebration on April 26, at First Christian Church. "Mexican Fiesta" was the theme for the celebration. The meal was catered by Delgado's and members provided a colorful "Fiesta" atmosphere with crepe paper hot peppers and lights. Bright crepe paper flowers made festive table centerpieces.

On May 2, Junior Rotarians from Great Bend High School were recognized by the Great Bend Rotary Club luncheon. Featured speaker Liz Sosa gave a motivational presentation about involvement and leadership.

API Annual Scholarship Night

API Annual Scholarship night will be held on May 25, at The Club at Stoneridge in Great Bend. Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Ed Cross, President of KIOGA. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door. Proceeds from this dinner, other event ticket sales, the API golf tournament in September as well as any donations, are utilized by the chapter for the continuation of the API Scholarship. API will present four scholarships this year to area high school graduates selected by our Scholarship ...

Three ways that worked for TOPS Royalty

TOPEKA - TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly, held its annual State Recognition Days in Topeka April 8-9. Mary Christie of Hoxie won 2nd Division 1 with 85.2 pounds lost; Amy Timmons of Smith Center won 1st Division 3 with 52.2 pounds lost and Jane McClellan of Scott City won 2nd Division 4 with 38 pounds lost.

The Central Kansas Photography Club will be hosting their annual Photography Workshop, Saturday May 21, at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Photographer and author Boyd Norton will be the presenter this year.

Progress Club meets for language program

The Progress Club met on April 4, at the home of Sharon Jones. Co-hostesses were Maxie Hinkson and Sharon Jones (substituting for Jackie Curtis). Treasurer Darlene Mathers reported a donation of $100 to the Great Bend Community Foundation for the Prairie Godmothers Funds. A letter from the Foundation thanking Progress Club for the donation was read.

Preceptor Pi tours and donates to Dream Center

Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi members toured the Central Kansas Dream Center during their March 1, meeting. Members brought household supplies, hygiene products and other items that they donated to the Dream Center.
