The Desk and Derrick Club of Barton County recently donated $100 to the Great Bend Military Moms, to help with the costs of sending care packages to deployed military personnel. The Great Bend Military Moms have sent more than 4,300 care packages, to those serving so far away from home, and are getting ready for the next shipment. If you know of anyone currently deployed, get their military address to Leslie Barrett, 620-792-2838, as soon as possible. They all deserve to know they are appreciated.
The four Great Bend chapters of Beta Sigma Phi celebrated Founder's Day April 25 with an evening dinner program in the Cavanaugh Room located at Barton Community College's Learning Resource Center.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel will meet at 11:30 a.m. on May 10, 2013, at Montana Mike's, 906 McKinley in Great Bend. President Sally O'Connor will chair the meeting.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met April 2 at Linda Jerke's home. President Jeri Brozek led the meeting with 12 members present.
Progress Club met on April 1 at the home of Judy Fox. Jackie Curtis and Maxie Hinkson were the co-hostesses. There were 18 members in attendance.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold it's monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at Montana Mike's, in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
Twilight Stitchers of Ellinwood will host a Member Trunk Show at 7:30 p.m. on April 11 at the Ellinwood Hospital Education room. Members will choose 3 to 4 quilts from their personal collections to share. Friends and guests are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 19 at Rosie Luthi's home. President Jeri Brozek led the meeting with nine members present.
On Saturday, March 23, five Barton County 4-H air rifle participants braved the weather and traveled to Cimarron to compete in the Gray County Air Rifle Match.
Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi collected and delivered a variety of foods to the Barton County Food Bank in February and March. This month, the chapter will give a $110 donation to Prairie Godmothers.
On April 11, ten Barton County 4-H'ers traveled to Alma to compete in the 2015 State 4H Air Rifle Match.
The April meeting of Parnassus Club met at the home of Darlene Boley. President Coralie Button presided over the business meeting. The club will continue the study of the Tone Poem for the 2015-2016 year. Club members heard presentations by four of the audition winners.
Progress Club met on April 6, at home Karen Becker with Janet Engleman and Pat Klusener as co-hostesses. Seventeen members attended. The program was given by Jan Peters, CEO of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce. Jan grew up in Colby and graduated from Great Bend High School. She spoke about economic development in Great Bend and efforts which have resulted in new businesses here: Central National Bank, Plains State Bank, Almost Home, Seaport Airlines and others. She also noted the efforts of many past and present Great Bend residents who have made a positive difference in our economic community.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend has changed the meeting day and the site for the month of April. This is to accommodate the speaker, who cannot meet with League on a Tuesday. The meeting has been changed to noon on April 6, at the Classic Inn.
