Progress Club

The Progress Club met on May 5, at Barton Community College for luncheon and a tour of the newly renovated Fine Arts Auditorium and the Resource Center. Judy Fox presided in the absence of Norma Ward. Judy opened the meeting with a prayer and introduced Darnell Holopirek, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement who was the guide for the afternoon. Following luncheon, Darnell gave an overview of the history of the Fine Arts Auditorium and the need for remodeling it to be more current and useful to its patrons. Garden Club plans spring cleaning days for Rose Garen

The 18 members of Great Bend Garden Club who met on April 17 made plans for pruning the cemetery rose garden on Tuesday, April 22, and working with Great Bend High School students on Wednesday, April 23, for Community Volunteer Day. Krissy Pumford, a high school teacher/sponsor, planned to work with a group of students to clean out the rose garden beds.

Otis Lions Club benefit Pancake Supper

The Otis Lions Club will hold a benefit Pancake Supper from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Otis Bison High school gymnasium. Cost per person is a free will donation. The 2nd Annual Pancake Races will start at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds will be used for Otis Beautification and youth projects in the local area with funds matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Local 4H’ers finish Air Rifle season at State Match

On April 12, seven 4H'ers from Barton County, traveled to Alma to compete in the 2014 State 4H Air Rifle Match. There they competed against the best 4H air rifle shooters in the state. To qualify for the match, the 4H'ers had to shoot 400, or higher, out of a possible 600 points, at a qualifying match earlier in the year.
