TLC Discoveries invited Berny Unruh and Donna Krug to talk to the children about 4-H in honor of National 4-H week. The children were also surprised with a basket of goodies each for all the help they give to the club and community. Phyllis Brack started a club at TLC about 10 years ago so the kids that were there and loved doing projects would have a place to showcase them and learn some important life skills. The speaker will be State Senator Ruth Teichmann, Republican from Stafford. She will be addressing the issues and problems the shortfall will have on the state and local programs funded by the state. Lunch will be informal, and time will be allowed for questions from the floor. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Come prepared to ask questions. They will be answered it possible.

Lions District Governor Rev. Kerry Hookstra will make an official club visitation to the Great Bend Evening Lions Club at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2400 Washington St. in Great Bend. All club members are encouraged to be present for this important meeting with the District Governor and other visiting Lions leaders.
The National Fall Festival of Singles in Agriculture will be hosted by the Missouri Chapter in St. Joseph, Mo. on Sept. 9-12, at the Ramada Inn Hotel and Convention Center. Join us for good food, special entertainment, and dancing to the Rowdy Boys. Tours planned that include the state of the art Remington Nature Center, the Patee House, the Pony Express Museum, the Historic Missouri Theater, and the Shatto Dairy.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi honored its president Cindy Meitler as Valentine Queen during a special dinner attended by members and their guests on Feb. 8 at Great Bend Coffee Company.
On Feb. 13 the TLC Twisters 4-H Club delivered bird feeders they made to Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation residents. They were made from combining gelatin and bird seed and forming them in cookie cutters in the shape of hearts for Valentines Day.
4-H'ers from across the state traveled to Great Bend on Feb. 15, to compete in the Barton County Winter Classic Air Rifle Match.
At their Feb. meeting, 17 members of Great Bend Garden Club learned of the far reaching legacy of the legendary Johnny Appleseed during a program given by Alice Young.
