Vice District Governor Ralph Rodgers will conduct an Official Club Visitation to the Great Bend Lions Club at noon on Tuesday at the Highland Hotel, 3017 10th Street in Great Bend. All club members are encouraged to be present for this important meeting with the VDG and District Lion Leaders.
Lions District Governor Rev. Kerry Hookstra will make an official club visitation to the Pawnee Rock Lions Club at 7:30 pm on Monday at The Lions Depot on Main in Pawnee Rock. All club members are encouraged to be present for this important meeting with the District Governor and other visiting Lions leaders.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 19 at the CPI Annex. Susan Brown served as hostess and Jeanne Schmitt was co-hostess. President Brenda Black led the meeting.
The 2010 PIF Sweetheart Award was presented to Debbie Jones (on the right) by Norma Ward, local PIF Representative. Debbie was honored for her outstanding service on the fund raising and projects committees. She has hosted the annual geranium sale pickup at her home for the last two years and also held a club garage sale. Currently, she is co-chair of the Projects Committee. A donation in her name has been sent to the Pilot International Foundation and she will receive recognition in the international Pilot Log magazine.
TLC Twister's 4-H Club met on Sept. 16.
The Golden Belt Wood Carvers will host their annual "Carve-n-Show" event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 23 and from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Street. The public is invited to attend. Local wood carvers will be displaying completed wood carvings and will be working on projects in progress.
The colorful glower gardens planned by Claude Monet of France later painted by him were shown in pictures by Nancy Swafford at the Sept. 20 meeting of Great Bend Garden Club.

The Hoisington Jets 4-H Club met Sept. 27th. The club had a potluck dinner before the meeting. The meeting was called to order by Vice-president Drew Reisner. Roni and Kayleigh led us in the song "A Bear Went Over the Mountain". Roll call was taken by secretary, Tiffany Schneider, answering to the question "What was your favorite food?" Leaders of the 315 Kansas Lions and Leo Clubs from all parts of the state will be meeting in McPherson Nov. 5-7 for the Fall Assembly of the Kansas Lions Council of Governors. A major order of business will be the assembly of the State Council of Governors for the second of their required meetings during the year to establish and evaluate policy that will guide Kansas Lions in community service to their hometown communities.
The Progress Club met on April 7, at the home of Sharon Mauler with Donna Oliver as co-hostess. Seventeen members were in attendance. Kim Roach of Great Bend Floral presented the program, "Pretty Posies." Kim has been in the floral business for several years and spoke about the recent innovations in her work. She demonstrated new ideas in making corsages and assembled two lovely floral arrangements.
Cub Scout Pack 184 recently held their annual Blue and Gold Banquet. The banquet was attended by family and friends of the scouts. Many patches, pins, and awards were presented to the cub scouts during the evening.
Benjamin Kelm, 17, of Shawnee, received his Boy Scout Eagle rank during the Court of Honor on March 22nd. He has been in scouting since the first grade and achieved his Eagle Rank in December 2013. Benjamin's project developed from seeing a need for two outside benches at his church. He organized and constructed two benches for his project.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold their monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday, at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
WICHITA – The Top 100 is one of the most highly sought-after titles of recognition Ducks Unlimited offers to its local chapters. Each year, the list is comprised of the top 100 fundraising chapters in the United States that raise up to $100,000 through fundraising activities in their communities. Through the efforts of these volunteer committees DU is able to pursue its mission of conserving, enhancing and restoring North America's wetlands. In 2013 the Wichita chapter made the Top 100 list as one of the organization's best fundraising chapters.
