Preceptor Pi gives to Boxes of Love for elderly

Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi gave socks, snacks, candy, gloves and many personal items to United Way's Boxes of Love to be given to the elderly for Valentine's Day.

Progress Club meeting

The Progress Club met on Feb. 5. The program was presented by Pam Martin of the Kansas Wetlands Education Center on how to press flowers. Instructions included preparing the press, choosing the right kind of flower, deciding on the flower placement and remembering how the flowers were arranged. Once placement is decided the flowers are removed and glue applied.

Growing succulents a good topic for Garden Club

At the January Garden Club meeting Nancy Swafford presented an interesting program on the unusual plant family called succulents. With examples of both living and artificial ones, she pointed out the most visual characteristic of succulents: their plump leaves which store water. However, she added that the roots and stems also store water.

Preceptor Pi presents Christmas gifts to girls' home

Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi had its annual Christmas dinner meeting Dec. 12 at the home of Janis Link. Members met for soup, cheese and crackers, and dessert. They also placed Christmas gifts in gift bags to be given to the girls at the Girls' Home, Barton County Youth Care, Inc. Gifts included games, popcorn, makeup kits and lotion/socks gift sets for the 10 girls.
