Fort Larned Lions Club stays active

The Fort Larned Lions Club was founded in March 8 1974, in Larned. During that time peroid the local Lions Club has helped the community by giving out Christmas baskets to the needy which serves an average of 100 families in the Larned area. It is their 42nd year doing this. In addition to this, Fort Larned Lions Club helps in purchasing eyeglasses for several poeple in need each year, supports two students to go to Lions Band Week, Helps with the After Prom Party, provides dictionaries to every 4th grade student in the local school, supports Kansas Lions Band ...

Progress Club meeting

Progress Club met on Oct. 3, for the first meeting of their new year. Seventeen members attended. The program was presented by member Mary Ann Boyle on "Developments in Brain Research" with new information on recent research. Hand-out sheets provided further information on power foods and how to make our brains more resistant to dementia.

VFW Post 3111 Auxiliary meeting

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 Auxiliary met on Oct. 25, at the Post Home with 12 attending. Projects for next month include: donations made to Emergency Aid Food Bank, Hungry Hearts Soup Kitchen, Kansas Endowment for Veterans Children and Grandchildren, National Military Service and Quilts of Valor for honoring our Veterans.

Great Bend Rotary meeting

Regan Reif and Julie Smith presented a program on the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to the Great Bend Rotary club on Oct, 17. This is the 20th year of the program, which mails a free book once a month to children ages 0-5 years of age to help with literacy improvement. The books can also help with the reading improvement of the children's parents as they read the books to the younger kids. The program has demonstrated significant improvement in the reading ability of kids who participate. The children are signed up for the program through the local library ...

Kansas Lions coming to McPherson

The local McPherson and area Lions Clubs will host Lion leaders from all across Kansas as they gather on Oct. 28-30, at the Best Western Convention Complex in McPherson.

EAA Chapter to give airplane rides to youth

Smoky Hill EAA Chapter #1127 will host a Young Eagle Day on Nov. 5, at the Ellsworth Airport. Young people age 8 to 17 are welcome to experience a demonstration flight in an airplane. The flights are provided free of charge to any youth wishing to participate.

Xi Delta Upsilon hosting Holiday Decor

Xi Delta Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is again hosting "Holiday Décor" from 2 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 6, at Flavored Celebrations at 1315 Stone Street in Great Bend. Donations will be taken at the door to benefit the Dream Center.
