Order of the Eastern Star presents pins

Order of the Eastern Star Chapters, Golden Sheaf Chapter 226 of Great Bend, and Queen Esther Chapter 32 of Lyons, joined in celebration of membership for both chapters for their 25, 50, 60, 70 and 75-year members at a special pin ceremony held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at the Hoisington Masonic Lodge at Hoisington. Worthy Grand Matron Wanda Ryan, Carbondale Chapter 38; Acting Worthy Grand Patron Steven Boyer, Valley Center Chapter 237; PGP Darrell Shanteau, Great Bend Chapter 226; and PGP Robert Ott Medicine Lodge Chapter 39 were all present and officiated the pin presentation.

Preceptor Pi President advances to Master Degree; chapter gives to veterans

President of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Rosie Luthi, was honored with the Master Degree ceremony Nov. 14, advancing from the Laureate Degree to Master Degree with 43 years of membership in Beta Sigma Phi.

Great Bend Knights of Columbus present checks

The Great Bend Knights of Columbus presented three checks to three local special organizations recently. Included were the Storm Special Olympics team represented by Jim Boehnke; Reach Program represented by Robin Kane; and the Great Bend Recreation Commission represented by Megan Hammeke, for individuals with special needs. The money came from the Knights Tootsie Roll drive Oct. 13, 14 and 15. The checks were presented by Grand Knight David Degenhardt.

Panhellenic provides financial help to initiates

The Great Bend Area Panhellenic is a local organization for alumni of the Greek sororities belonging to the National Panhellenic Conference. One objective of the group is to promote interfraternity, friendship and collaboration among Greek alumni. If anyone has recently moved to Great Bend and would like to be included on the email list, please send your email address to tinahiss@cox.net. Garden Club hoping to interest new members

"How did you become interested in gardening and flowers?" This question was asked by Nancy Swafford to kick start a rush of memories by the 14 members of Great Bend Garden Club during their November meeting. From requirements to weed the family garden patch before being allowed to go swimming as a child, to making hollyhock ladies, to watching a mother grow whole new plants from just a leaf from an existing African violet or a branch from an existing bushy plant, to resurrecting geraniums which had hung and dried over the winter in a garage, to having a father ...

Correction: Thread Benders now meet at Heartland Community Church

The location for the Central Kansas Thread Benders meetings was incorrect in Sunday's club calendar. The group now meets at the Heartland Community Church in the Village Mall at 4907 10th St. This week members will make pot holders for Heartland Community Church at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17. There will be a business meeting and presentation on the Golden Plains Quilts of Valor at 1 p.m.

Pilot International celebrates Care and Kindness Week

Gifts from Godmothers continue

The Prairie Godmothers, a group of "women helping women" in Barton County, wanted to give an extra blessing to the women that have already been helped this past year. The board met Nov. 7 at the Golden Belt Community Foundation office and agreed to further help those women this holiday season with gift cards to Ellinwood Packing Plant. Women can treat themselves and their families to a variety of meats, cheeses, pies, and sweets.
