When members recite the 4-H pledge, they vow to use their hands for larger service to better their club, their community, their country and their world. Kansas 4-H is uniting to prove their commitment to the pledge by participating in 48 hours of 4-H, a statewide community service project showcasing the positive impact 4-H'ers can make in just one weekend.
October will be the start of the new season of study for the women of Parnassus Club. The Parnassus Club was organized in 1939 as a music study club. In 1960 the club began annual scholarship auditions for young musicians with cash awards for the winners. These awards are designated for further music study. The auditions are held in early spring each year at BCC.
The Daughters of Isabella will have an Open Meeting/Pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the St. Patrick parish center. All ladies of the parishes are in invited to come and see what D of I is all about.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
The 2014-2015 Pearl Sparks Pilot Service Award was awarded to the incoming President of Great Bend Pilot Club, Betty Schneider. Betty was recognized at the International Pilot Convention in Orlando, Fla. in July. She is this year's incoming Pilot Club President. Betty has said, "I feel it is my duty as a Pilot to give willingly, fully and selflessly as a mentor, leader and caregiver to our families, friends and community. Pilot provides countless opportunity to perform the unexpected acts of care and kindness that will make a difference in the lives of others."
