Barton County Historical Society to host Volunteer Orientation - April 7

The Barton County Historical Museum and Village will conduct an Orientation Meeting at 1 p.m. on April 7 at the Village south of the river bridge on Highway 281. The meeting is for anyone in Barton County who seeks information about volunteer service at the museum. This meeting will help volunteers, new or returning, to become acquainted with life at the Village and to learn more about the new happenings and the many new displays at the museum.

Barton County Historical Society

There are many 'untold stories' about Great Bend Army Air Field during its brief, but very active, existence during World War II. One of those stories involves six young women, assigned to GBAAF as WASPs or Women Airforce Service Pilots. Barton County 4H’ers compete in Pawnee County Air Rifle Competition

On Saturday, March 19 kids in the Barton County 4H Shooting Sports project traveled to Pawnee County to compete in the annual Pawnee County Shootout air rifle competition.

Great Bend Rotary

The Great Bend Rotary Club recently honored five new Paul Harris Fellows. They were Rotarians Ed Mauler, Devin McMillen, Dr. Patrick Stang, Dr. Tom Vernon and Rotary Spouse, Anna Burke. Rotarian Gary Burk was honored as a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow. District 5670 Governor Peter Marcus from Ness City made the presentation. BCARSP Meeting

The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at 11:30 a.m. on March 11 at the Club at StoneRidge. President Rose Kelly opened the meeting with the flag salute and Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. Thirty-eight members and one guest, Alicia Westhoff, were present. New members Steve Dayton, Janice Friedeman and Marcia Berchek were introduced.

The Progress Club met on March 7. Hostess was Karen Becker. Seventeen members were present. Pat Halbower gave the program on Australia. Seventh Annual Barton County 4-H Winter Classic

The Seventh Annual Barton County 4-H Winter Classic hosted over sixty 4-H members from nearby counties. Members participated in air rifle and archery competition to prepare for the upcoming state 4-H Shooting Sports Competition to be held April 16th at the Expo Grounds west of Great Bend.
