Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi present a gift of $550 to Dr. Kyle Krebaum for the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation established by Krebaum and his wife, Tasha, in memory of their daughter, Makinna, to help families who have special-needs children. This donation will go toward the Foundation's new project to fund playground equipment for a special-needs access park. Since the chapter's first donation to the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation in 2008, Preceptor Pi has given a total of $3,082 to the foundation. The Otis Lions Club will hold a benefit Pancake Supper from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Otis Bison High school gymnasium. Cost per person is a free will donation. The 2nd Annual Pancake Races will start at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds will be used for Otis Beautification and youth projects in the local area with funds matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Parnassus Club met on April 8, at Darline Boley's residence
On April 12, seven 4H'ers from Barton County, traveled to Alma to compete in the 2014 State 4H Air Rifle Match. There they competed against the best 4H air rifle shooters in the state. To qualify for the match, the 4H'ers had to shoot 400, or higher, out of a possible 600 points, at a qualifying match earlier in the year.
The Progress Club met on April 7, at the home of Sharon Mauler with Donna Oliver as co-hostess. Seventeen members were in attendance. Kim Roach of Great Bend Floral presented the program, "Pretty Posies." Kim has been in the floral business for several years and spoke about the recent innovations in her work. She demonstrated new ideas in making corsages and assembled two lovely floral arrangements.
Cub Scout Pack 184 recently held their annual Blue and Gold Banquet. The banquet was attended by family and friends of the scouts. Many patches, pins, and awards were presented to the cub scouts during the evening.
Benjamin Kelm, 17, of Shawnee, received his Boy Scout Eagle rank during the Court of Honor on March 22nd. He has been in scouting since the first grade and achieved his Eagle Rank in December 2013. Benjamin's project developed from seeing a need for two outside benches at his church. He organized and constructed two benches for his project.
