The 17th Annual Kansas Iwo Jima Reunion and Dinner was founded by the late Walt Vincent in 1996. This is the inaugural year to include other World War II veterans. The event will be on May 5 at the Arden H. McKee American Legion Post #128, 108 East Garfield in Sterling, The door will open at 2:30 p.m. for refreshments and viewing of memorabilia. All veterans are invited and encouraged to bring personal memorabilia.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at the Club at Stone Ridge at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9. President Rose Kelly called the meeting to order and led the flag salute. Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. Forty-eight members and two guests, Joyce Weeden and Doneida Baker, were present. Rose introduced visitors Judy Jones, District IV KARSP Director; and her husband, Max Jones.

Due to state budget cuts to the Kansas VFW Veterans Services, the military order of the Cootie, Local Cheyenne Flyway Pup Tent 7 of Kansas will hold a consignment auction at 9 a.m. on April 7 at the VFW Post 3111, 504 Washington with 3% of the proceeds donated to the Cooties to help veterans in need.

Zeta Gamma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met for a special dinner at the Elks Lodge in Great Bend on Feb. 25 to honor the chapter's Outstanding Sister for the year, Jeanette Shirer. She was presented with a gift and an Outstanding Sister charm. Jeanette fIrst joined Alpha Tau Chapter in Hoisington in 1952. She went inactive for a period of time to raise her children and to help her husband with his work.
