4-H'ers from across the state traveled to Great Bend on Feb. 15, to compete in the Barton County Winter Classic Air Rifle Match.
At their Feb. meeting, 17 members of Great Bend Garden Club learned of the far reaching legacy of the legendary Johnny Appleseed during a program given by Alice Young.
Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is the global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research.
The 2014 4-H Shooting Sports season has started. The Barton County 4-H Air Rifle Program has been represented at two matches already this season.
The Progress Club met on Feb. 3, at the home of Linda Dougherty with Judy Turner and Pat Klusener as co-hostesses. Eighteen members attended. Kathy Schugart introduced the guest speakers: Sisters Anita Schugart and Cecilia Ann Stremel of the Heartland Center for Wholistic Health. They presented a program on Homeopathy and Natural Healing. Several remedies including vitamins, probiotics and the promotion of healthy living were discussed.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday, at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 21 at the home of Cindy Meitler, president, who led the meeting.
The annual Mid-Winter Rally of Kansas Lions will take on an international flavor as they play host to Lions International Director Dr. Hauser Weiler of Virginia, on Jan. 17-19, at the Ramada Convention Center in Salina.
On Jan. 14, The Parnassus Club met at Coralie Button's residence. It was announced that the annual Parnassus auditions for local students in voice and piano will be held on March 1.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi started 2014 with a dinner meeting on Jan. 7 at the Classic Inn. President Cindy Meitler led the meeting with ten of the chapter's twelve members present.
Dr. Roger Marshall, of Great Bend, has assumed the volunteer post of Rotary International district governor for 2014-15. As governor, Marshall coordinates the community and international service projects of the 32 clubs in district 5670 which encompasses the Central and Northwest Kansas area. He assumed office on July 1, and will serve through June 30, 2015.
