Presentation explores the Pawnee Tribe in Kansas
The Quivira Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will host The Pawnee Tribe in Kansas, a presentation and discussion by Chris Howell at 2 p.m. on Aug. 6, at the Barton County Historical Society, 85 S. Highway 281, in Great Bend. Members of the community are invited to attend the free program. The program is made possible by the Kansas Humanities Council.

Boy Scout Troop 149 Eagle Court of Honor and 25th Anniversary Celebration
On July 2, Boy Scouts of America Troop 149 held a celebration for being chartered with the Boy Scouts for 25 years and to recognize its two newest Eagle Scouts. It was also to induct new Scoutmaster Dr. Chris Koster, as the past Scoutmaster Ken Edgett stepped down after serving in that role for the last 20 years. Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend has been the sponsoring organization of the troop since it started in 1986.

League of Women Voters meeting
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at The Club at Stone Ridge. Lunch will be from the menu. The program will be provided by Randy Smith from Barton Community College He teaches in the criminal justice program. He was a former KBI agent. He will be discussing the high rate of narcotics use and alcoholism in Barton County.
Preceptor Pi presents gift
Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi present a gift of $453 to Dr. Kyle Krebaum for the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation established by Krebaum and his wife, Tasha, in memory of their daughter, Makinna, with the goal of providing special-needs toys and equipment to local families who have special-needs children. Soroptimist International of Great Bend held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 11. The purpose of this meeting was to present small financial gifts to two local charities that support women while learning more about their current programming and services.

DAV "Forget-Me-Not" fundraiser
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 27, Great Bend will hold their annual "Forget-Me-Not" fundraiser, on July 4th at local businesses in Great Bend. Soroptimists celebrate most successful Garden Tour in club history
The Soroptimists of Great Bend recently celebrated the most successful garden tour fundraiser in their club history. The tour, titled "Great Gardens & Garages," was held on Sunday, June 12th with the help of numerous individuals in the Great Bend area. Linda Marmie of Chapter DU, JanBonine of Chapter IV, Becky Hill of Chapter HR and Margie Nairn of chapter FS, were among more than 250 delegates who attended the 109th annual convention of Kansas State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, June 3-5, in Wichita. The theme for the convention was "Destination P.E.O." Kansas State Chapter President Jeanette Mooney of Chapter JB, Paola, presided.
