Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 at the Club at StoneRidge. President Rose Kelly opened the meeting with the flag salute and Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. Thirty-nine members and one guest, Edith Treece, were present.

Progress Club
The Progress Club met on Dec. 6 at the home of Darlene Boley. Seventeen members were present including two new members, Janet Engleman and Judy Turner.
Delta Tau Soroity
Members of the Delta Tau Soroity gathered on Dec. 14 for a time of Christmas celebration. They toured the festive homes of some of the club members and enjoyed appetizers and a dessert at the homes. The evening also involved the pledge ceremony of the new members of Delta Tau. In a candle lit ceremony, Stephanie Joiner of Great Bend and Rachel Sieker of Ellinwood officially became sisters of Delta Tau. It was a fun and joyous evening, and a warm welcome to the new members of Delta Tau.

League of Women Voters meeting
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at The Club at Stone Ridge. Lunch will be from the menu. The program will be provided by Mary Miles, Executive Director of the Heart of Kansas Medical Clinic. She will be speaking on the effect of budget cuts on the services provided for people in need. The luncheon is informal and time will be allowed for discussion from the floor The public is invited to attend the meeting and ask questions.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 3111 met at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the Post home. Debra J. Davis was accepted into membership. The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met on May 10, at Montana Mike's in Great Bend. President Sally O'Connor presided over the meeting. There were 50 members and two guests present.
Great Bend Optimist and Rotary Club luncheon
A joint luncheon recognition was recently held for the Great Bend Optimist and Rotary Clubs. Brigadier General Vic Braden, Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, for the United States Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth was the speaker.

Desk and Derrick presents check
The Desk and Derrick Club of Barton County recently donated $100 to the Great Bend Military Moms, to help with the costs of sending care packages to deployed military personnel. The Great Bend Military Moms have sent more than 4,300 care packages, to those serving so far away from home, and are getting ready for the next shipment.
