The Parnassus Club met on Feb. 14 at Sharon Jones residence. Nancy Converse, presided. Roma Murphy was introduced as guest at the meeting.
Barton County Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the main museum library, just south of the Ark River Bridge on Highway 281. David Barnes, Director of Shafer Gallery at Barton Community College will provide the program, Native American Art and Culture.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 7 at the home of Linda Jerke. Janice Walker was co-hostess. President Janis Link conducted the meeting.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be their "quick serve" menu.

Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi present a gift of $550 to Dr. Kyle Krebaum for the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation established by Krebaum and his wife, Tasha, in memory of their daughter, Makinna, to help families who have special-needs children. This donation will go toward the Foundation's new project to fund playground equipment for a special-needs access park. Since the chapter's first donation to the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation in 2008, Preceptor Pi has given a total of $3,082 to the foundation. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and its Ladies Auxiliary met on Jan. 24 at the Post Home.
On Jan. 27, the Great Bend knights of Columbus hosted its annual Men's Stag. The event featured a mountain oyster and homemade sausage meal, fellowship and a prize drawing. Howard Meier, Columbus Club board member said, "Thanks to the support of our Stag sponsors, we were able to give away nearly $3,000 in cash and prizes."
Preceptor Pi and Theta Master chapters of Beta Sigma Phi had their Sister Chapter Social Jan. 17 at First Christian Church.
Joe Boley will be the program speaker at the Barton County Historical Society Annual Meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Jan 23th. The topic will be "Planeview-the Miracle City". In 1942 Planeview,located south east of the Wichita city limits, was a thriving government housing project built for the defense plant workers of World War II. Mr. Boley will re-tell many of his experiences as a teenager living in the projects, as well as many facts and figures relating to the building of Planeview including it's past, present and future.
The Parnassus Club met on Oct. 14, at the home of Coralie Button. Parnassus is a long standing study group with an interest in music.
