Preceptor Pi members celebrate opening of My Backyard Playground

Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi took special pride in attending the December grand opening of My Backyard Playground on the grounds of the Great Bend Recreation Commission Activity Center, 2715 18th, knowing their contributions helped make the playground a reality for their community.

Golden Sheaf Chapter #226 Order of the Eastern Star meeting

The Golden Sheaf Chapter #226, Order of the Eastern Star, Great Bend, meeting at Hoisington Masonic Hall will be honoring 50 and 60 and other year pin recipients at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1. These pins will be presented by our Worthy Grand Patron, Richard Short of the Grand Chapter of Kansas. API to hold luncheon Wednesday

The Western Kansas Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute will hold a luncheon at noon Wednesday at the Club at StoneRidge, 1438 24th St. in Great Bend.

Daughters of Isabella soup sampler meal

A Soup Sampler Meal sponsored by the Daughters of Isabella Circle #744 will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, at the St. Patrick Parish Center. Public is invited to come and sample different soups for $7/person, age six and under free, includes drink and dessert.

Barton County Thread Bender's

Each year the Barton County Thread Bender's quilt guild makes a quilt as a fundraiser to raise money for projects during the year. This years winner of the quilt is Shawna Hughes from Hoisington. The winning ticket was drawn at the December meeting. Shawna was able come to the meeting to pick up her quilt. This year's quilt was designed and created by Eloise Winkleman.

Pawnee Rock Lions Club looking for members

Pawnee Rock Lions Club has been a Lions club since Aug. 22, 1949. The amount of club members has varied over the years. The Lions Club raises money for local charity and betterment organizations in the community. They are looking for new people to join the club, which is down to only seven members. DAR award

Lathelda "DoDo" White of the Fort Larned Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was awarded the Medal of Appreciation by Bobbie Hulse, WVP Kansas Sons of the American Revolution, for her referral of Justin Engleman as a prospective member in the SAR. Engleman was confirmed as a descendent of Phillip Engleman who served in the Virginia Militia during the American Revolution. He is now a member of the Society qualifying White for the award.
