Parnassus Club Annual Vocal and Piano Auditions
On March 5, The Parnassus Club held its annual vocal and piano auditions at Barton Community College Fine Arts Building. The 1st place piano award was given to Hannah Mosier of Great Bend, 2nd place piano award was given to Taylor Fry of Great Bend, and 3rd place piano award was given to Hannah Wilborn of Hoisington. League of Women Voters
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at The Club at Stone Ridge. Lunch will be from the menu. The program will be provided by Phyllis Bosley, who will be speaking on the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome on children and ultimately the family. The luncheon is informal and time will be allowed for discussion from the floor. The public is invited to attend and participate.
American Legion
The American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend held their annual Valentine Dinner and Dance on Feb. 12. The 2011 King and Queen were Norma and Norman Kimber of Hoisington.

Preceptor Pi hosted by Sister Chapter Xi Delta Upsilon
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 22 at First Congregational United Church of Christ for a "Winter Wonderland Party" hosted by Sister Chapter Xi Delta Upsilon. The Sister Chapter served chili with various toppings and cherry crunch with ice cream for dessert. Xi Delta Upsilon also presented each Preceptor Pi member with a stuffed snowman holding a fleece blanket.

Members of the guild met on January 18 at the Presbyterian Church in Larned. In the absence of the president, Diann Morell demonstrated the last two friendship blocks in the current round of series. Starting in 2011, members may choose from three new sampler quilt projects for an individual project. Current prayer quilt numbers sixty in the last two years. Central Kansas Thread-Benders Quit Guild members Ronnie Drees, left, Iva Behrens and Susan Gray show the Opportunity Quilt, which was won by Behrens in a drawing in December. Each year members raffle one quilt, using the money donated for tickets to buy materials to make TLC quilts, which are provided to people after a fire, serious illness or other disaster. Golden Sheaf Chapter #226, Order of the Eastern Star, Great Bend, hosted an official visit of the Worthy Grand Matron of Kansas, Dolores (Dee) Smith, and Worthy Grand Patron, Larry Swain, also of the Grand Chapter of Kansas, on May 20, at the Masonic Hall in Hoisington.
