In May, twelve Barton County 4H'ers and five certified shooting instructors started the 4H Small Bore Rifle Season by starting practice at the county level. Every Wednesday evening, they met at the Kiowa Gun Club to practice.

The League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold its monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at the Classic Inn in the back room. Lunch can be from the buffet or from the menu.

Pilot International Foundation was established in 1975 to support the community-based work of Pilot Clubs by promoting the awareness and prevention of brain-related disorders, and improving the lives of those affected by such disorders, through education, volunteerism, financial support, and research. Each year, the Great Bend Pilot Club supports the efforts of Pilot International through a multitude of community and individual care activities.

Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi had its first meeting of the season Sept. 1, at the home of Brenda Black. New chapter president Jeri Brozek led the meeting. Members decided to continue supporting the Barton County Food Bank as one of their service projects and will discuss additional service projects in future meetings.

When members recite the 4-H pledge, they vow to use their hands for larger service to better their club, their community, their country and their world. Kansas 4-H is uniting to prove their commitment to the pledge by participating in 48 hours of 4-H, a statewide community service project showcasing the positive impact 4-H'ers can make in just one weekend.

October will be the start of the new season of study for the women of Parnassus Club. The Parnassus Club was organized in 1939 as a music study club. In 1960 the club began annual scholarship auditions for young musicians with cash awards for the winners. These awards are designated for further music study. The auditions are held in early spring each year at BCC.
