Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its first meeting of the new sorority year on Sept. 6. Members met first at the USD 428 Central Kitchen on Broadway for a program arranged by Janis Link. Food Service Director Karl Sprague gave a tour of the kitchen and explained the operation including planning, preparing and transporting meals to the schools.
The Parnassus Club met Sept. 13, at Treader's for the fall kickoff.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at The Club at Stone Ridge. Lunch will be from the menu. The program will be provided by Cynthia Batman representing the Barton County Youth Care, or the Girls Home. They cover a large district, and provide a wide range of services to the youth of the area. The luncheon is informal and time will be allowed for discussion from the floor. The public is invited to attend and participate in the discussion.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at the Club at Stone Ridge on Friday, Sept. 2, at 11:30 a.m. President Rose Kelly called the meeting to order and welcomed four guests, Leonard Gales, Toni Rice, Carol Lanich and Scott Gregory. A total of 48 members were present. Kelly led the flag salute and Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. The minutes of the May 6, 2011, meeting were approved as printed and the treasurer's report was approved as read. Dues of $20 for 2012 are now payable to treasurer Danelda St. Aubyn.
Seven Great Bend Desk & Derrick club members attended the 56th annual regional meeting in Bartlesville, Okla. held at the famous Frank Phillips Tower Center. Sharon Hiss, GBD&D club member is serving as 2011 Region VI Director and welcomed attendees to the convention with her theme "Living Our Visions & Achieving Our Goals". She conducted all aspects of the educational event that included business sessions, seminars,field trips and awards ceremonies. The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 2 at the Club at StoneRidge, 24th and Frey in Great Bend. President Rose Kelly will be in charge of the meeting. Members are asked to continue to record their hours of volunteer service.
Dr. Roger Marshall, of Great Bend, has assumed the volunteer post of Rotary International district governor for 2014-15. As governor, Marshall coordinates the community and international service projects of the 32 clubs in district 5670 which encompasses the Central and Northwest Kansas area. He assumed office on July 1, and will serve through June 30, 2015.
