At the January meeting of Great Bend Garden Club, Darlene Boley introduced her guest speaker, Joyce Esfeld, who gave a delightful program on Holland's Keukenhof, The World's Largest Flower Garden. The Keukenhof, translated "Kitchen Garden," is located near Amsterdam on the original hunting grounds of a large castle. For many years it has been the showcase for Holland's bulb growers. The seventy-nine acres are blooming with over seven million bulbs and is open to the public from March 20 to May 20 each year. Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi shared a Sister Chapter Social with Laureate Kappa Jan. 15 at First Christian Church. The dinner was catered by Bernard's Catering of Hutchinson. The two chapters met separately for their meetings following the dinner.
Great Bend City Slickers met on Dec. 13th. Eight members, two leaders, seven parents and one guest were present. Roll call was taken by naming one of Santa's reindeer. A project talk was given on archery. A health talk was given on teeth and a safety talk was given on hunting safety. Flowers were given to the Senior Center. After a chili supper the club went caroling at Cherry Village. Members brought gifts for the nuns. Members raising livestock must attend showmanship and assurance training and attend five regular 4-H club meetings to sell market projects.
Golden Sheaf O.E.S. Chapter 226 of Great Bend met on June 15 at the Hoisington Masonic Hall for their last meeting before summer break. Kristi Hord from the Proficiency Team and Cindy Moore from the Membership Team for District 9 were present.
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 27, Great Bend, hold their annual "Forget-Me-Not" fundraiser, Saturday July 4, at local businesses in Great Bend. Chapter 27 members will be stationed at both Dillons stores, WalMart, Waters True Value Hardware and Orschein Farm & Home Store.
