Eighteen members of the Great Bend Garden Club met on March 17 at the county extension office.
The Great Bend Rotary Club recently honored five new Paul Harris Fellows. They were Rotarians Ed Mauler, Devin McMillen, Dr. Patrick Stang, Dr. Tom Vernon and Rotary Spouse, Anna Burke. Rotarian Gary Burk was honored as a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow. District 5670 Governor Peter Marcus from Ness City made the presentation. The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at 11:30 a.m. on March 11 at the Club at StoneRidge. President Rose Kelly opened the meeting with the flag salute and Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. Thirty-eight members and one guest, Alicia Westhoff, were present. New members Steve Dayton, Janice Friedeman and Marcia Berchek were introduced.
The Progress Club met on March 7. Hostess was Karen Becker. Seventeen members were present.
Several Scouts from Troop 111, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Great Bend, received special recognition for giving service beyond what is normally expected.
Boy Scout Troop 149 recently held Pinewood Derby Race.
The Seventh Annual Barton County 4-H Winter Classic hosted over sixty 4-H members from nearby counties. Members participated in air rifle and archery competition to prepare for the upcoming state 4-H Shooting Sports Competition to be held April 16th at the Expo Grounds west of Great Bend.

Zeta Gamma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met on March 8 at the home of Karen Lindberg. Ten members were present with two members absent. Meeting included discussing the agenda for the upcoming months. We will be having a Wine Tasting/Birthday party this month. District H will be hosting a Tea Party/Installationat 1:30 p.m. on March 13 the at First Presbyterian Church with our chapter members hosting. Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 1 at the CPI Annex. President Brenda Black led the meeting.
The Otis Lions Club will hold a benefit Pancake Supper from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Otis Bison High school gymnasium. Cost per person is a free will donation. The 2nd Annual Pancake Races will start at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds will be used for Otis Beautification and youth projects in the local area with funds matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Parnassus Club met on April 8, at Darline Boley's residence
On April 12, seven 4H'ers from Barton County, traveled to Alma to compete in the 2014 State 4H Air Rifle Match. There they competed against the best 4H air rifle shooters in the state. To qualify for the match, the 4H'ers had to shoot 400, or higher, out of a possible 600 points, at a qualifying match earlier in the year.
The Progress Club met on April 7, at the home of Sharon Mauler with Donna Oliver as co-hostess. Seventeen members were in attendance. Kim Roach of Great Bend Floral presented the program, "Pretty Posies." Kim has been in the floral business for several years and spoke about the recent innovations in her work. She demonstrated new ideas in making corsages and assembled two lovely floral arrangements.
