The Pilot Club of Great Bend met for a noon luncheon at the new Recreation Center Activity Building to officially present a Wii Sports program for use by the Special Population of the Center. Betty Schneider (R), President-Elect of the Pilot Club, presented the Wii to Diane Henderson, Director of the Great Bend Recreation Commission, and Linda Marqueling (L), Director of the Special Population and Seniors. Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Kansas State Council's Autumn Board meeting was held at Heartspring Campus Conference Center in Wichita on Nov. 5-7th. Kim Kummer, Lisa Baum and Coleen Cape, members of Delta Tau Chapter in Great Bend were in attendance. Kummer, Kansas State Council President, presided over the weekend activities which included presentations from Heartspring staff Kim Becker and Lindsay Dutton updating members on the Occupational Therapy room and the current project of building a tree house adaptable for children in wheelchairs. The Daughters of Isabella will celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception with a Corporate Communion at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at at the St. Patrick worship site. After Mass, members are invited to go caroling at the nursing home.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel will meet at 11:30 a.m. on December 10 at 11:30 a.m. at the Club at StoneRidge, 24th and Frey in Great Bend. President Rose Kelly will be in charge of the meeting. Installation of officers for 2011 will be held. Members are asked to continue to record their hours of volunteer service.

"Tulip Mania" was the craze that gripped the Dutch in the early 1600's when travelers from the Middle East brought the cup-shaped flowers to the Netherlands. The tulips of that time were so rare to the people of the Netherlands that prices for the rare bulbs reached unrealistic highs, stated Alice Young, Memorial Garden Chairman for the Great Bend Garden Club.

Vice District Governor Ralph Rodgers will conduct an Official Club Visitation to the Otis Lions Club at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Senior Center in Otis. All club members are encouraged to be present for this important meeting with the VDG and other District Lion Leaders.
Tuesday evening, members of the Delta Tau Sorority gathered for their annual decorating of the Historical Society Museum for Christmas. The selected theme this year is: "Every time a bell rings, and angel gets his wings." The museum is adorned with gold and greenery, and features a variety of festive angels and bells. Christmas is alive at the museum, and all are encouraged to visit this Holiday season and experience it's beauty.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi honored its president Cindy Meitler as Valentine Queen during a special dinner attended by members and their guests on Feb. 8 at Great Bend Coffee Company.
On Feb. 13 the TLC Twisters 4-H Club delivered bird feeders they made to Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation residents. They were made from combining gelatin and bird seed and forming them in cookie cutters in the shape of hearts for Valentines Day.
4-H'ers from across the state traveled to Great Bend on Feb. 15, to compete in the Barton County Winter Classic Air Rifle Match.
At their Feb. meeting, 17 members of Great Bend Garden Club learned of the far reaching legacy of the legendary Johnny Appleseed during a program given by Alice Young.
