Local 4H’ers travel to Pawnee County for Air Rifle Competition

On March 15, Barton County 4H'ers traveled to Pawnee County to compete in the Air Rifle competition of the Pawnee County Shootout. There were fifteen 4H'ers from Barton county, that competed in the air rifle competition.

The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met on March 13, at Montana Mike's, in Great Bend. President Sally O'Connor presided over the meeting. There were 42 members present.

LWV meeting

League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.

Parnassus Club Auditions

Parnassus Club held their annual piano and voice auditions on March 1 at the Barton Community College Fine Arts Building. Twenty-three piano and voice students participated in the auditions open to all Barton County music students. The voice students perform two art songs memorized and piano students perform one memorized solo for an adjudicator who then writes an evaluation of the student's performance and gives awards in both the Junior category,(6th grade through 8th grade) and senior division (high school). The adjudicator for both voice and piano was Ms. Tiffiney Harms, McPherson College music instructor.

Pilot Club

Brain Awareness Week is March 10-16. BAW is a global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Public outreach that propagates breakthroughs in recent brain research can help children and adults learn how to live a more brain-healthy lifestyle and, by increasing the public's awareness, also increase their support for funding further research. Barton County 4H Air Rifle Kids compete in Ellis Count Match

On March 1, the parents of Barton County 4H Air Rifle kids braved the winter weather conditions and traveled to Hays so the 4H'ers could compete in the Ellis County 4H Air Rifle Match.

Progress Club

The Progress Club met on March 3, at the home of Karen Becker with Janet Engelman and Pat Halbower as co-hostesses. Fourteen members attended. Judy Fox presided in the absence of Norma Ward and opened the meeting with the Lord's prayer. Roll call was followed by the reading and approval of the previous month's minutes. Treasurer's report was given by Darlene Mathers. There was no correspondence or any committee reports. In new business, the topic of officers for the coming year was discussed. TLC Twisters 4-H Club

On Feb. 13 the TLC Twisters 4-H Club delivered bird feeders they made to Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation residents. They were made from combining gelatin and bird seed and forming them in cookie cutters in the shape of hearts for Valentines Day.
