Albert Sayler feted with grave marking ceremony

The Sons of the Plains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution honored late SAR Compatriot Albert Lowell Sayler with a grave marking ceremony at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Great Bend Cemetery, 4500 Broadway, Great Bend. State President Dennis Nelson, State Vice President Bobbie Hulse and State Color Guard Commander Dewey Fry were on hand to provide honors. Justin Engleman, Great Bend, president of the Sons of the Plains Chapter, was master of ceremonies and delivered the memorial address.

Beadles-Fry named the Pilot Club Ambassador

Each year, the Great Bend Pilot Club supports the efforts of Pilot International through a multitude of activities. The original Foundation - Pilot International Foundation was established in 1975 to support the community-based work of Pilot Clubs by promoting the awareness and prevention of brain-related disorders, and improving the lives of those affected by such disorders, through education, volunteerism, financial support and research.

P.I. Mary Ann Boyle speaks at Progress Club

Mary Ann Boyle, board certified genealogist and private investigator, spoke to Progress Club at the Oct. 2 meeting. She related an intriguing account of a "Case of Assumed Identity." Thread Benders do more than quilt

The Central Kansas Thread Benders began in 1983 and are still going strong. One of the enjoyable things about the CKTB involves learning new skills. On a recent Friday, the guild sponsored a workshop to learn how to sew a "stained glass" quilt, presented by David and Teresa Duwe from Derby.

Area Captain Larry King was the speaker at a recent meeting of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Chapter 1151 in Great Bend. King and his helper Andrew presented a musical pep talk, "Tune Up with TOPS," and invited members to make their own Top 10 playlists for weight loss.
