League of Women Voters meeting
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
Western Kansas Lions run with The Pride in Dodge City
Many of the 1,450 members of the 67 Lions Clubs of Western Kansas will gather as The Pride at Magouirk Conference Center in Dodge City, on Saturday, Feb. 16, for their annual District Convention. Special guests of the Lions will be International Director Dave and Marie Hajny of Ennis, Mont., representing the International Association of Lions Clubs.

Opportunity Quilt awarded
Ronnie Lutz, Central Kansas ThreadBenders Opportunity Quilt Chairman, has announced the recipient of the 2012 Opportunity Quilt as Sandra Vink of Great Bend. Each year, the guild members create an Opportunity Quilt and the money raised funds the group's HC project.

Great Bend City Slickers 4-H club meeting
The Great Bend City Slickers 4-H Club met on Jan. 10. Twelve members, one leader, and ten parents were present. Roll call was answered by "What you got for Christmas." A member made a box for the clubs flags in his shop class. The group discussed fund-raising ideas. Barton County 4-H Days will be held on March 2nd. Entries are due by Feb. 15th.
TLC 4-H Club meeting
At the recent TLC 4-H Club meeting members decided to participate in Get Fit for 4-H for the 4-H days. Karly Brungardt did a demonstration on "How to make Origami"; Morgan Kaiser demonstrated "Polish your Nails"; Kaitlin Adams demonstrated hoe to make t-shirt bags; Jacenda Gilbert demonstrated how to make GAK, a gel like substance; and Bonny Boultinghouse presented a talk on scarves and demonstrated "How to make Kettle Corn."

After 3½ months of safety training and practice, the 4H air rifle competition season started Jan. 19 with a match in Wichita at the Sedgwick County Extension Office.
Garden Club enjoys the beauty of the World’s Largest Flower Garden
At the January meeting of Great Bend Garden Club, Darlene Boley introduced her guest speaker, Joyce Esfeld, who gave a delightful program on Holland's Keukenhof, The World's Largest Flower Garden. The Keukenhof, translated "Kitchen Garden," is located near Amsterdam on the original hunting grounds of a large castle. For many years it has been the showcase for Holland's bulb growers. Preceptor Pi and Laureate Kappa Combine for Sister Chapter Social
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi shared a Sister Chapter Social with Laureate Kappa Jan. 15 at First Christian Church. The dinner was catered by Bernard's Catering of Hutchinson. The two chapters met separately for their meetings following the dinner.
TLC Twisters 4-H meeting
The TLC Twisters 4-H club met on Dec. 13. Members bought gifts for the Angel Tree and took presents to the Life Giving Center. Pizza was then served and members brought desserts to share.

Golden Sheaf Chapter #226, Order of the Eastern Star, Great Bend, hosted an official visit of the Worthy Grand Matron of Kansas, Dolores (Dee) Smith, and Worthy Grand Patron, Larry Swain, also of the Grand Chapter of Kansas, on May 20, at the Masonic Hall in Hoisington.
