League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday, at The Club at Stone Ridge. Lunch will be from the menu. Progress Club members made a field trip to Greensburg on May 2 to view firsthand the town's recovery since the 2007 tornado. GreenTown tour leader Ruth Ann Wedel led the group on visits to the Silo Eco-Home, 5.4.7 Arts Center, Kiowa County Schools complex, Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Methodist Church, BTI Greensburg - John Deere, and a private home. She explained the sustainable eco-friendly construction methods used. Members enjoyed lunch at the Green Bean.
The 66th-annual Kansas State Convention of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International was held April 28-May 1 at the Highland Hotel and Convention Center in Great Bend. Kim Kummer, member of ESA: chapter Delta Tau of Great Bend, served as the Kansas state president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for the 2010/2011 year. Kummer served as the presiding officer over the weekend's business and festivities, and her theme for her term in office, "Let Your Life Speak," well influenced the atmosphere of the conference.
On April 16th, the Great Bend Saddle Club held their Third Annual Benefit Trail Ride. This trail ride benefited the Pawnee County Humane Society. To ride the riders brought bags of pet food that was given to the humane society along with proceeds from the poker hands. Participants were able to purchase tickets to play poker hands on electronic games. The top three poker hands won cash prizes.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and its Ladies Auxiliary met on April 26 at the Post Home.

The "I Dare You" Leadership award was first offered in 1941 by the late William H. Danforth, founder of the Ralston Purina Company in St. Louis. He challenged young people to achieve their highest potential and to influence others through lives of service. The award is inspired by the book, I Dare You! written by Danforth, in which he commends the balanced life of mental, physical, social and spiritual development as the backbone of leadership.
Of all that can be gained in 4-H work, none is more prestigious that of the Kansas 4-H Key Award. To earn the Key Award, candidates must be 16 years of age and must be enrolled in the leadership project for the past four years.
Pilot international and local Pilot Clubs around the globe recognize the second week in November as International Care & Kindness Week, a week-long public awareness campaign meant to bring awareness to how simple acts can change a day, a life or the world by simply showing someone you care. International Care & Kindness Week encourages people to "Take time to Care and Be Kind."
The Parnassus Club met at the home of Sharon Jones with eight members present. The study of the Tone Poem continued with Becky Dudrey giving the program on Richard Strauss' composition 'Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks' Composed in 1895. 'Till Eulenspiegel' chronicles the misadventures and pranks of this German peasant. In this composition, Richard Strauss, uses the horn and the D flat Clarinet to bring to mind the folly of this prankster, Till.
