Zeta Gamma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met on March 8 at the home of Karen Lindberg. Ten members were present with two members absent. On March 5, The Parnassus Club held its annual vocal and piano auditions at Barton Community College Fine Arts Building. The 1st place piano award was given to Hannah Mosier of Great Bend, 2nd place piano award was given to Taylor Fry of Great Bend, and 3rd place piano award was given to Hannah Wilborn of Hoisington. Tiffany Harms, piano instructor at McPherson College and formerly of Great Bend judged the piano contestants. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and its Ladies Auxiliary met on Feb. 22 at the Post Home.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at The Club at Stone Ridge. Lunch will be from the menu. The program will be provided by Phyllis Bosley, who will be speaking on the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome on children and ultimately the family. The luncheon is informal and time will be allowed for discussion from the floor. The public is invited to attend and participate.
The American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend held their annual Valentine Dinner and Dance on Feb. 12. The 2011 King and Queen were Norma and Norman Kimber of Hoisington.
Sharon Jones was hostess on Feb. 7 to 15 members of the Progress Club.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 11 at The Club at StoneRidge, 24th and Frey. President Rose Kelly will be in charge of the meeting.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 22 at First Congregational United Church of Christ for a "Winter Wonderland Party" hosted by Sister Chapter Xi Delta Upsilon. The Sister Chapter served chili with various toppings and cherry crunch with ice cream for dessert. Xi Delta Upsilon also presented each Preceptor Pi member with a stuffed snowman holding a fleece blanket.
Stan Jantz of Hoisington was honored Saturday by being presented with the to his chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. Stan is the Americanism Chairman for the Sons of the Plains Chapter which meets in Hutchinson. Stan is a member of the Color guard and has participated in events at every opportunity and initiated opportunities when none were scheduled. Stan has been instrumental in getting joint involvement with the DAR Chapter in Ellsworth.
During their September meeting, 16 members of the Great Bend Garden Club travelled to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center to hear about the progress of the center's butterfly garden.
