The Progress Club met on April 7, at the home of Sharon Mauler with Donna Oliver as co-hostess. Seventeen members were in attendance. Kim Roach of Great Bend Floral presented the program, "Pretty Posies." Kim has been in the floral business for several years and spoke about the recent innovations in her work. She demonstrated new ideas in making corsages and assembled two lovely floral arrangements.
Cub Scout Pack 184 recently held their annual Blue and Gold Banquet. The banquet was attended by family and friends of the scouts. Many patches, pins, and awards were presented to the cub scouts during the evening.
Benjamin Kelm, 17, of Shawnee, received his Boy Scout Eagle rank during the Court of Honor on March 22nd. He has been in scouting since the first grade and achieved his Eagle Rank in December 2013. Benjamin's project developed from seeing a need for two outside benches at his church. He organized and constructed two benches for his project.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold their monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday, at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
WICHITA – The Top 100 is one of the most highly sought-after titles of recognition Ducks Unlimited offers to its local chapters. Each year, the list is comprised of the top 100 fundraising chapters in the United States that raise up to $100,000 through fundraising activities in their communities. Through the efforts of these volunteer committees DU is able to pursue its mission of conserving, enhancing and restoring North America's wetlands. In 2013 the Wichita chapter made the Top 100 list as one of the organization's best fundraising chapters.
Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 18 at the home of Janis Link with Jeanne Schmitt acting as co-hostess. President Cindy Meitler led the meeting.
On March 15, Barton County 4H'ers traveled to Pawnee County to compete in the Air Rifle competition of the Pawnee County Shootout. There were fifteen 4H'ers from Barton county, that competed in the air rifle competition.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met on March 13, at Montana Mike's, in Great Bend. President Sally O'Connor presided over the meeting. There were 42 members present.
On Saturday, March 8, four local 4H'ers and their families traveled to Cimarron, for the Gray County 4H Air Rifle Match.
